The Premier League has seen many great players over the years but nothing is more fun to watch than an unknown quantity take the league by storm. Invariably one or two players from the lesser known clubs have a great impact on how a season progresses and more often than not end up moving to a bigger club or a fatter pay cheque.
Leicester City have been the surprise package of the season so far and even if they do fade away in the second half of the campaign, it would have been a brilliant performance by the club. Watford, Crystal Palace and Stoke have all been brilliant so far and we look a few transfers that might take place sooner or later which could surprise a few teams.
With 13 goals and seven assists in the league campaign, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Riyad Mahrez actually leave Leicester City. The Foxes would make a killing on the sale of the 24-year-old Algerian and Mahrez would actually be a great signing for any club that does bid for him. A great winger, Mahrez has been linked with a move to Arsenal but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Manchester United move for him as they are also in need for some effective wide men.
2. Andre Ayew
Swansea’s season isn’t improving all that much and it was a massive surprise to see Jonjo Shelvey being sold to Newcastle, a direct rival who is fighting against relegation. Recently there have been bids for their other star signing from this season Andre Ayew and the forward could well be on his way to another team before the end of this transfer window.
3. N’Golo Kante
While Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez continue to do well, there have been plaudits for one more Leicester star, N’Golo Kante. The midfielder has been a rock in the Leicester team this season and could well be set to move away to a bigger Premier League club at the end of the season. The defensive midfielder could well fetch Leicester a massive amount in the next transfer window which the Foxes can use once again to find another gem from the lower leagues.
4. Odion Ighalo
Watford’s season has been much better than most would have expected especially with a new manager at the helm but Quique Flores has been helped by the amazing performances of Odion Ighalo. The striker has been impressive for the Hornets and could well be in line to move to a team such as Chelsea who require someone to play up top and could be the replacement for Didier Drogba that the Blues have searched for all these years.
5. Xherdan Shaqiri
It was a Premier League miracle as Stoke City of all teams ended up signing the want-away star. Shaqiri, a Swiss international, didn’t have the greatest time at Inter Milan but he seems to have made a wise choice by coming to Stoke. Now that he is firmly set in the Premier League and has shown that he can perform, the player could well be moving to a bigger Premier League club. Liverpool were once linked with the winger and they could well sign him up at the end of the season.
