Sevilla 0-0 Manchester United: David De Gea Saves The Day As Mourinho’s Men Manage To Escape With A Goalless Draw

David De Gea proved to be the hero again as he ensured Manchester United earned an important draw against Sevilla at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. His wonder save off a Luis Muriel effort was the highlight of the game. Sevilla attacked and ran at United’s defence, in and out of the contest.

They posed better possession, created better chances and had eight shots on goal in contrast to United’s one. They controlled the proceedings and looked daunting for large periods of play, having brought their creative men into action early on. Regarding Sevilla’s frustration, they now have a job on their hands to go to Old Trafford and beat the Red Devils. Clearly, Jose Mourinho would be the happier manager if the result is considered.

David De Gea: 9.5/10

Stopped eight shots on goal and looked confident and dominant throughout the game. He made one world-class save to literally save United and help them to a goalless draw. Dear Gea is in line for the Manchester United player of the year again.

Antonio Valencia: 5/10

Valencia was often caught chasing the wingers as he looked out of steam. He didn’t add anything going forward either. A rare dip in form.

Chris Smalling: 5/10

Was good in the air and made crucial clearances. However, he let Muriel get the better of him twice and was too slow to react.

Victor Lindelöf: 5/10

A hesitant display. Lindelöf worked well with Smalling but failed to make quick decisions and get his feet sorted.

 

Ashley Young: 7/10

He was well disciplined at the back and won his share of tackles and long balls. Going forward, Young was safe in possession.

Ander Herrera: N/A

Was unfortunate to have picked up the injury. He barely played 20 minutes, hence can’t be rated.

Nemanja Matic: 7/10

Protected his defence, provided good cover and was solid. At the same time, he was not illustrious either.

Scott McTominay: 8/10

Hats off to the commitment and intent of the youngster. He was innovative and constructive in possession, showed good spirit and energy and was the quickest of the midfielders to react to danger.

Juan Mata: 4/10

He was too slow on the ball, which often brought the players around into pressure and allowed time for the Sevilla defenders to assemble themselves. His crossing wasn’t good enough either.

Alexis Sanchez: 4/10

Sanchez was unable to break through the tight, robust defending. He failed to drift in, get forward into spaces or create a massive chance, apart from the one to Lukaku in the 25th minute.

Romelu Lukaku: 3/10

Yet another silent outing for the star striker. His hold-up play was alright but lack of movement and service let him down. Got one fine chance but made a mess of it.

Paul Pogba: 6.5/10

Dazzled with his strength and fine footwork but hardly created a convincing chance. Due to the constant pressure applied by the home side, Pogba could not dictate the play.

He played fearlessly, took two shots on goal but both were off target.
