Wolves 2-2 Norwich City: Nelson Oliviera’s Injury-time Strike Lands A Sucker Punch On Nuno Santo

Wolverhampton Wanderers were held to a 2-2 draw at home to mid-table Norwich side despite leading for almost all of the game in the West Midlands. Wolves took the lead after 14 minutes when Diogo Jota’s shot hit the inside of the post and just sneaked over the line despite Norwich’s efforts to keep it out.

It was given as an own goal by Jamal Lewis. Then Wolves doubled their lead with a powerful header from Alfred N’Diaye before Norwich got one back less than two minutes later, thanks to Christoph Zimmerman finishing off a set-piece move. It looked like Wolves had held on all the way through the second half until Nelson Oliviera struck in the last minute of the game from 30 yards out to earn his team a point at Molineux.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be unhappy with the way his side conceded the equaliser in the last minute, with the ball bouncing in front of John Ruddy before hitting the back of the net.

Wolves Player Ratings

John Ruddy – 6

John Ruddy will be really disappointed with the way he conceded the second goal but he could have had more support from his defence.

Ryan Bennett – 7

The best player among the defenders on show. Was never afraid to put his head on the ball.

Conor Coady – 5

A disappointing display by Coady who was not able to keep the Norwich attackers quiet in the second half.

Willy Boly – 6.5

An excellent defender but I suspect this is a game he would like to forget. He is still an excellent passer of the ball.

Matt Doherty – 7

Did his offensive and defensive work well, but was missing the ability to cut through the defence and make a difference.

Alfred N’Diaye – 7.5

Scored a wonderful goal in the first half before being replaced by Morgan Gibbs-White in the second half. A good performance from a solid player.

Ruben Neves – 7

All he got for his troubles in this game was a yellow card. Felt a little more settled with the change to 3-5-2. Touches of brilliance, but didn’t cut through.

Barry Douglas – 8

An excellent corner to set up the assist for the second goal, and a truly wonderful performance all-round.

Helder Costa – 6

Taken off at halftime to accommodate the change to 3-5-2. This was not one of his greatest games.

Diogo Jota – 7

Will claim the first goal as his own and at times, he is unplayable. However, he probably needs to finish a few more of the many chances the team is giving him.

Ivan Cavaleiro – 7

Not his best game but he did everything he could to secure a victory for his team before being replaced by Benik Afobe.

Substitutes

Romain Saiss – 7

Played very well on his return, a very classy presence in midfield.

Benik Afobe – 6

Was not able to come on and affect the game on the scoresheet but he always causes problems for defenders.

Morgan Gibbs-White – 6

Another good run out for the young player.
