New manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to add more quality to his Celtic side and one player who has been linked with a move to Scotland from the Premier League is Nathan Dyer. The English Premier League winner with the club was actually on loan from Swansea when he picked up the unlikeliest of winner’s medals.
The problem with being at Leicester last season was that after the first few games, Dyer barely made an appearance, though he did have one crucial goal to talk about when he scored in the dying minutes to defeat Aston Villa.
Dyer made just 14 appearances in the entire league season and a lack of games could mean that he probably won’t get a lot of game time at Swansea too, if he does return. One thing that is in his favour is the fact that he grew and became one of the best wingers in the Premier League at one stage under current Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Northern Irishman had a great time at the Swans before his ill-fated spell at Liverpool and now he looks set to rejuvenate his career at Scotland with one of the biggest clubs in the world. Celtic also seems to be looking for an attacker/winger with the likes of Tom Rogic being linked with a move away from the club and to the Premier League.
Rodgers knows what Dyer would provide to the club and the fact that Dyer is one of the fastest players in the Premier League would hold him great stead in a new league. Dyer also is decent when it comes to crosses and that too would be a great option to have for the Hoops.
Celtic would need to really strengthen if they are to do well in the Champions League qualifying rounds, which would actually be the real test for Rodgers. The Hoops have struggled to do well in Europe and last time, they even struggled to perform in the Europa League with Ronny Deila in charge.
Rodgers knows that he has to get Celtic up and running or he could face the ire of the fans, who would want nothing but the best seeing that Rangers would also be back in the Scottish Premiership this time around. Any lost ground at the start of the season could prove costly.
Dyer would be an inexpensive signing as well and being just 28-years-old, he still has a lot to give to a Celtic side looking to make strides in Europe under their new manager.
