According to reports from the Sun, Tottenham have re-entered the race for Bournemouth star Nathan Ake. The 24-year-old was amongst the Cherries most consistent players this season and it’s one of the many reasons why Tottenham need him.
Not only that, with Tottenham looking for new additions, Ake would be a brilliant move. The 24-year-old joined Bournemouth after spending a year on loan at the club with game-time at Chelsea being hard to come by.
This saw Ake make just 17 appearances for the first-team with a large portion of those minutes coming in cup competitions. However, this saw the young Dutch defender establish himself as a star, a rising graph that he has now hit.
Furthermore, his legend has grown even further at the Vitality Stadium. Given Tottenham’s need for a new centre-back, the 24-year-old would be perfect.
The North London club may have finished in a Champions League spot, but their league season wasn’t one to sing home about. Their collapse was rather incredible, as at one stage, Tottenham had an outside chance at a Premier League title.
But then came the collapse and the club fell, losing all momentum. It saw a struggling Chelsea side eventually leapfrog over them on the final day of the season, earning a guaranteed place in the Champions League for next season.
Not only that, Tottenham’s defensive issues in the Champions League really hurt the club as they ended up on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline. Things need to improve at the club and given the core that he has, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has to make sure things improve.
The likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and even Davinson Sanchez will not be there forever. Furthermore, to make things even worse, first-team star Toby Alderweireld has a meagre £25million release clause to his name.
That should make things interesting once clubs actually start spending and see what lies ahead.
