Celtic FC opinion: Hoops in for Liam Moore – Good move?

According to a report in Reading Chronicle, Scottish giants Celtic have renewed their interest in signing Reading defender Liam Moore during this transfer window.

The 26-year-old, who has been one of the key players for the Royals since arriving back in August 2016, has constantly been linked with a move away from the Madejski Stadium. (h/t Reading Chronicle)

The Leicester City youth product did hand in a transfer request last summer, chiefly due to bad management. However, a bid of £8m came and nothing materialised. (h/t Reading Chronicle)

Despite him signing a new contract 10 months back and being made the captain of the team, Moore’s speculative future comes back to fruition once the transfer window began. Neil Lennon’s Celtic are in pole position to prize him away. (h/t Reading Chronicle)

Here’s why this could be an ideal move for the Scottish treble winners:

Hoops require experience and quality in central defence

Predominantly a centre-back who can play on either side, Liam Moore can operate as a right-back also, if required. The former England U-21 international was one of the main reasons why Reading stayed up in the Championship.

In terms of attributes, the 26-year-old possess great recovery pace to match the runs of pacy forwards, is good at reading the game from a defensive point of view, can make runs forward from right-back and deliver good crosses into the box and is physically very strong on and off the ball.

Moore’s defensive versatility makes him a “manager’s delight”, especially in a team that plays games three times a week.

On the other hand, after the departure of Dedryck Boyata, Celtic are down to not many options in central defence. Hence, they are right in targeting a move for the Reading skipper.

Conclusion

Liam Moore is a quality player who can walk into the Hoops’ line-up without much fuss. Therefore, Neil Lennon’s men shouldn’t hesitate in making a move for him.
