Tottenham opinion: Tottenham should sign Patrick Cutrone

According to Tuttomercato Web, Tottenham along with Borussia Dortmund have enquired about AC Milan’s unsettled striker Patrick Cutrone.

The Italian has been out of the starting line-up since the arrival of Krzysztof Piątek in January and the report claims that a bid in the region of €30-35million will be accepted by the Italian giants in the summer.

Tottenham’s backup striker role has been a problem for the best part of the last 4 years.

The likes of Roberto Soldado, Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen have all been failures for the North London club and Mauricio Pochettino has been forced to use Son Heung-min up top in the absence of Harry Kane.

Spurs need a proper striker who can play with or in place of Kane and Patrick Cutrone is a brilliant option in the summer.

Cutrone has started just 10 games so far this season and is not happy with his situation at the club. The now 21-year old scored 18 goals and provided 6 assists in an outstanding campaign last term but has only managed 3 goals in the league this season.

A bit like Harry Kane, Cutrone bases his game playing on the shoulder of the last defender. Once put through on goal, he is deadly and very rarely misses the target. Pace isn’t one of his many strengths but the Italian has very quick feet on the ball and is incredibly sharp in his turns.

Cutrone is a fine poacher and arrives at the right place at the right time more often than not. His strength allows him to brush off defenders with relative ease and is pretty comfortable on both feet.

One of Cutrone’s greatest assets is his ability in the air. The Italian is an absolute nightmare for the defenders in set-piece situations and the use of his head in acute angles to squeeze the ball into the net makes him a real threat in the box.

Cutrone’s reading of the game is unreal. His movement off the ball in behind the defenders is incredibly rare to see at such a young age and with a little bit of mentoring, he will be one of the best in the world in the coming years.

Conclusion

If the reported price of €30-35million is true, it is a no brainer for Spurs to bring the young Italian to London in the summer.

The 21-year-old will give Spurs that extra offensive push that is lacking right now and his signing could well prove to be the missing piece in Mauricio Pochettino’s jigsaw.
