Southampton have not had the best of seasons so far, with the Saints sitting two points above the relegation zone. But since sacking Mark Hughes, new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has managed to inject hope into the Saints.
His job is far from over and with 8 games left, it will get harder. But that being said, if the club do survive the season then Hasenhuttl will need reinforcements to help Southampton push on next season.
The likes of Mohamed Elyounoussi, Shane Long, Mario Lemina, Fraser Forster and a few others have all struggled to make any impact whatsoever, which has played a part in the club’s downfall.
With the summer window approaching, Hasenhuttl has impose himself on the club and make sure that good and reliable players are brought in. A centre-forward, centre-back, right-back, and a winger should be at the top of the club’s shortlist.
Given their troubles this season, the wide areas have to be strengthened in the summer.
Both Sims and Elyounoussi have struggled to make an impact, while Nathan Redmond has become a more central attacker. While Southampton do have Sofiane Boufal out on loan, the Moroccan has failed to make an impact since his move.
That showcases the Saints’ issues and reveals why they have to target Serie A star Rodrigo de Paul.
The 24-year-old made his name at Racing Santander in Argentine before moving to the La Liga, where he struggled. However, another move to Udinese proved to be the better move and De Paul has since found his footing.
A crucial star for the Serie A side, the Argentine is a versatile player and has been used more centrally by his former managers.
But at Udinese, he has mainly played as a left-winger, producing 11 goals in 25 appearances in the Serie A alone. A very creative winger, Rodrigo de Paul uses his pace and skill on the ball to terrorise opponents.
Given Mohamed Elyounoussi’s struggles this season, the 24-year-old Paul can slot right in.

That combined with his defensive work rate and tenacity makes him a great choice for Southampton and it’s a move they have to make. The Saints are barely managing to survive in the Premier League at the moment and they’ve to improve quickly.
Rodrigo de Paul’s presence will add another dimension to Hasenhuttl’s side and that’s something they need badly.
