Top Four Free Agents Arsenal Should Look To Sign This Summer

Share

The World Cup might just be a handful of days away, but the rumour mill is busy these days with major British Tabloids reporting clubs wanting to wrap up transfer deals before the showpiece events begins in Sambaland. Today we here at Soccerosuls provide our readers with the top four free agents available to Premier League clubs in the summer transfer market

Victor Valdes:

Lukasz Fabianski’s switch to Swansea will have a domino effect as reported by many pundits. But time has perhaps come for Arsene Wenger to bring in a quality goalkeeper who can challenge Wojciech Szczesny to the number one spot under the sticks. With Marc Andre Ter Stegen making his move to Barcelona, Valdez’s career is over with the Camp Nou outfit.  The 32 year old has attracted the Nouveau Riche French side Monaco while Manchester City are also interested in the Spaniard, but it could be Arsenal who might land him at the Emirates in the summer if they are ready to bring in an injured player.

Valdes suffered a serious knee injury against Celta Vigo a couple of months back, which ended his season and chances are that he might not play until the start of the next year. In such a scenario, it would be hard for the 32 year to find a club. But given his experience and potential, Arsenal can risk it and more so, it might not hurt to have a keeper of Valdes’ calibre in the second half of the season.

Mario Gaspar:

The 23 year old has been Villareal’s standout player this season featuring in 36 appearances for the Yellow Submarines this season. Unfortunately for the player, his contract expires in the summer and is poised to leave the club after a good season under his belt. Arsenal might be a possible destination for the Spaniard, the Gunners who will have to sign defensive reinforcements if Vermaelen decides to leave the Emirates in search of first team football.

The youngster can be an effective third choice defender for the Gunners and give it a couple of years under the stewardship of Wenger, Gaspar can grow into a world class player.

Jeremy Menez:

The 27 year old French International who plays as an attacking midfielder for Paris St Germain has long been an Arsenal target. Menez had earlier given the clearest of indications of his desire to leave Paris saying,

“I am looking for a team that would make me rediscover the pleasure of playing football.”

Menez though, has hardly featured for Laurent Blanc’s side making only 8 starts this season scoring a couple of goals and grabbing the same number of assists in what has been a disappointing season personally for the player. The player, however, is capable of playing as a second striker a position that Arsenal badly needs to fill in. He might be that one French signing Wenger loves to do every season. French, free signing, low on wages, your typical Arseanl & Wenger signing.

Diego Ribas:

The 29-year-old Brazilian international who had a terrific season under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid has been offered a three-year deal at Santos but is believed to be interesting Arsenal. The former Wolfsburg player is an immensely versatile player capable of playing in a multitude of positions in midfield and also as a supporting striker just off the number nine in attack. He would offer Arsenal a different attacking outlet given his dribbling abilities and is also a genuine threat from set pieces. The player would like to play in one of the biggest teams in the Premier League and given that he is available for free, Wenger can snap up the Brazilian, which would be a major coup for the Emirates outfit.
