Top Three Defenders Who Will Make This Liverpool Side Rock Solid

Share

The Reds are back in the Champions League after a long absence of six years and manager Brendan Rodgers’ armed with a sizeable transfer kitty is looking to dish out his transfer targets as the Reds look to compete on several fronts in the next campaign. Here are three players that Liverpool need to plug  their leaky defense and add significant strength at the back line.

Alberto Moreno:

Several Premier League clubs are on the hot trail for Sevilla left back Alberto Moreone but it is believed that Liverpool are in pole position to acquire the services of the 21 year old Spaniard. A youngster, who has enjoyed Europa League success with the Spanish side and a decent campaign in La Liga as well. The icing on the cake arrived when Vincente Del Bosqe decided to include him in his 30-man preliminary squad for the World Cup.

Although he might not get signnificant palying time, his inclusion defenitely speaks volume about his potential. The Guradian have reported that Liverpool have made an official €20m with Brendan Rodgers desperate to strengthen his squad ahead of next campaign, where Liverpool will play in the Champions League after a long absence of six years.  John Flanagan has shown immense maturity playing in the left back slot and with no certainty on Jose Enrique’s fitness, Liverpool are believed to be taking no chances, trying to conduct business early in the summer.

Kyle Walker:

England’s 3-0 win over Peru might have looked well in the scoreboard, but it couldn’t hide fragilities which seemed glaring. Apart from the Wayne Rooney talk, Glen Johnson had a nightmare out on the pitch. The 29 year old Liverpool right back had an absolute shocker and more than a big concern, the former Chelsea man seemed a massive liability. He was caught out of position time and again by the Peru players and it would certainly have struck Roy Hodgson to start Phil Jones or even James Milner ahead of Johnson and it appears that the latter is well past his sell by date. Kyle Walker would a great addition for the Reds and with Martin Kelly being injury prone, the Tottenham right back would be glad to play under Rodgers who has focused on young players as he continues to impress in his managerial stint at Anfield.

Inigo Martinez:

Daniel Agger has been linked with several clubs in the past few weeks with Barcelona seeming to be the Dane’s destination in the summer. Napoli too are interested in the player as Rafa Benitez looks for a reunion of the player he brought to Liverpool from Brondby. If Agger deserts Anfield, Rodgers is sure to bring in a center back and Real Soceidad’s Inigo Martinez looks a significant option. The Basque defender’s  growing reputation in Spain has a €30m release clause and the player has interests from Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

The 22 year old is one of the best young defenders in the La Liga and Liverpool who have a major transfer kitty can pursue the player, who would a great long term prospect for the Anfield side.
