Leicester City Player Ratings vs Newcastle: Here’s how the Foxes fared

Goals from Jamie Vardy and Harry Maguire guided Leicester City to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at St. James Park on Saturday in the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy broke the deadlock at the half-hour mark from the penalty spot after Harry Maguire’s volley hit DeAndre Yedlin’s hands.

Joselu came agonisingly close to equalising but his outstretched leg could not make contact with a cross. But the game was put to bed in the second half when Maguire rose the highest to thump in a header and double Leicester’s lead.

Leicester Player Ratings

Kasper Schmeichel – 5/10

Schmeichel was a mere spectator in the game as Newcastle were very passive and toothless in the attack.

Daniel Amartey – 6/10

Amartey was defensively decent and limited going forward. Overall, he enjoyed a solid display against the Magpies.

Wes Morgan – 6/10

Morgan exuded confidence and leadership in the backline. He kept Joselu at bay and was a handful from set-pieces.

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire – 8/10

He made an excellent sliding challenge to deny Joselu from opening the scoring in the first half. Maguire forced an error out of Yedlin and scored a bullet header that sealed all three points for the Foxes.

Ben Chilwell – 7/10

He was fantastic going forward. Chilwell established himself as a reliable attacking outlet on the left. Didn’t have much to do on the defensive front.

Nampalys Mendy – 7/10

Mendy bossed the midfield as the enforcer. He won plenty of tackles, broke up the opposition’s play and allowed his teammates in the attack to play their natural game.

Wilfred Ndidi – 7/10

Just like his midfield partner, Ndidi had a really good game too. Sprayed plenty of crosses from the middle of the park and worked tirelessly to help his team earn all three points.

Ricardo Pereira – 6/10

Pereira worked hard on the right flank but his end product was very disappointing. Performed his defensive duties. He had the first chance to open the scoring for Leicester but the Newcastle goalkeeper denied him.

Kelechi Iheanacho – 6/10

Iheanacho put in a great shift up top as he always tried to create things.

James Maddison – 7/10

An impressive display again. Came up with some excellent set-piece deliveries and some of his touches on the ball were sublime.

Jamie Vardy – 7/10

Took his penalty with aplomb to give Leicester the lead. Led the attack very well.

Substitutes

Marc Albrighton – 5/10

Replaced Vardy with 15 minutes left in the game. Added some much-needed freshness to the attack.
