Three Reasons Why Losing Antonio Conte To Inter Milan Will Be A Disaster For Chelsea

Share

Inter Milan’s new Chinese owners are reportedly planning a shock swoop for Chelsea manager Antonio Conte in the summer. The Chinese consortium are reportedly ready to offer Conte €60m over four years and a €400m transfer budget to rebuild the Italian giants. The Suning group, the owners, are prepared to offer Conte a four-year contract to take charge of the Nerazzurri and lead them past Juventus as the superpower in Italy and help them conquer Europe.

Inter sacked Robert Mancini before the start of the season while former Ajax boss Frank De Boer lasted under three months with the new regime. Things have looked better under new manager Stefano Pioli, after they put in a 9-match winning run, until Monday’s 1-0 loss to Juventus. Inter are currently 5th placed in the Serie A standings, 5 points behind third-placed Roma who occupy the last Champions League spot.

Conte is enjoying a fine debut season in England with Chelsea and looks all set to win the Premier League trophy at the end of the season. However, the chance to return to his homeland and the finances that will be available at hand, could possibly turn the former Juventus manager’s head.

Here we give you three reasons why the move will be nothing but a disaster for Chelsea:

Turned Them into Winners Again

After a dismal season last time around, that saw Chelsea finish in a lowly 10th place, Antonio Conte has brought the club back into prominence and looks like taking them all the way to the title.

The campaign started on a shaky note for Conte and it seemed like there will be more sorrow for the Chelsea faithful once again, but the Italian turned it around with a tactical tweak. Having switched to the 3-4-3 setup, Chelsea have won 16 of their 18 league games since they made the change and have looked unstoppable. Having opened up a 9-point lead at the top, Chelsea’s return to the summit of the English football seems just a matter of time.

There was plenty of pressure when Conte arrived at Stamford Bridge and it compounded when the results did not go their way in the early stages. However, the Italian remained unfazed and has put his team at a stage from where the title is just a little further away.

Brought the Best Out of Players

Chelsea’s star player Eden Hazard had an awful season last year under Jose Mourinho and then Guus Hiddink. The Belgian, who won the 2014-15 PFA Player of the Year award struggled to get going during Chelsea’s previous campaign, but this term, under Conte, Hazard is back to his belligerent best. The 3-4-3 system seems to have liberated Hazard and has afforded him the freedom to wreak havoc in the attacking third.

The same thing can be said about Pedro. The former Barcelona man struggled to get going in his first season in English football under Jose but looks to be a man reborn this season and has become a vital part of the Chelsea setup. Forgotten man Victor Moses has received a new lease of life as the right-sided wing-back and is excelling in his new role.

Conte has rejuvenated many players during his short tenure as the Chelsea manager and the team is reaping the rewards of his man-management skills. Losing him would be a big blow to the team and the players who are enjoying playing for the Italian.

Few Better Tacticians Around

There is nothing wrong in saying that there are few better managers in the world than Conte when it comes to tactical acumen. The Italian has shown great awareness and great understanding of the game in his managerial career.

Be it the way he set up his Juventus side, leading them to major honours and success over a sustained period of time or the way he masterminded Italy’s run in the EURO 2016 in France or his awareness that his tactics in the early parts of the season with Chelsea weren’t working and the decision to switch to the 3-4-3, Conte has demonstrated great intelligence. If Chelsea lose him to Inter, the void that he would leave behind, despite his short time in-charge at the Stamford Bridge, would be extremely hard to fill.
