Brighton Player Ratings vs Newcastle: Here’s how the Seagulls fared

It was another disciplined performance from Brighton and Hove Albion who came away with a 1-0 win against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park. Beram Kayal scored the only goal of the game which ultimately proved to be the decider.

Newcastle United were once again poor and barely threatened the Seagulls’ backline. Rafa Benitez will be under real pressure with the Magpies now at the bottom of the league.

Brighton and Hove Albion Player Ratings

Matt Ryan (7/10)

Ryan was superb between the sticks and made a number of routine saves. He was otherwise largely untested.

Bruno (6/10)

Gave away the ball on a few occasions but did well to stretch the Newcastle defence with his raids down the flank.

Shane Duffy (7/10)

A confident performance from Shane Duffy who really is proving to be the spine of this team.

Lewis Dunk (7/10)

Equally brilliant performance from Dunk, whose partnership with Duffy has been superb this season. He dealt with Yoshinori Muto well.

Gaetan Bong (7/10)

Bong showed superb work rate as he charged up and down the field. He was also defensively solid on the night.

Alireza Jahanbaksh (6/10)

The Iranian has still not settled into the Premier League and was yellow carded for a needless tackle.

Dale Stephens (6/10)

Stephens was impressive with his distribution but failed to make anything click in the final third.

Beram Kayal (8/10)

Easily Brighton’s best performer on the night. Kayal scored the winning goal and defended relentlessly, picking up a yellow card in the process.

Jose Izquierdo (8/10)

The Colombian threatened the Magpies with his pace and ability on the ball. He came close on a few occasions as well but was unfortunate not to find the back of the net. He did pick up the assist for their goal though.

Solly March (7/10)

March was good with his passing in the middle of the park but the midfielder was unable to finish off his chances.

Izquierdo

Glenn Murray (4/10)

Murray was unfortunate to come off injured. The striker has proven to be the focal point of this team.

Substitutes

Jurgen Locadia (6/10)

Not the best performance but he did link up well in the final third.

Bernardo (6/10)

The defender made a number of vital interceptions and clearances to keep Newcastle at bay.

Yves Bissouma (5/10)

Gave away the ball cheaply on a couple of occastions but defended well and ensured Brighton saw out the win.
