Manchester United Blog: 3 Reasons Why Sticking With LVG Makes Sense

3 Reasons Why United Must Not Fire LVG

Manchester United have been through a roller- coaster ride already this season, much like Louis van Gaal’s whole stint at Old Trafford. From the lows of succumbing to defeats to both Bournemouth and Norwich, to the high of completing a double over Liverpool, it’s difficult to make something out of how United have been this season. It’s been a season which overflows with defensive resilience but has got buckets of attacking incapabilities too, piling up the negative aura around Louis van Gaal’s presence at the club.

And as United lie at the 5th place in the league, 2 points behind 4th placed Spurs, there is still a lingering hope that a top four finish is very much possible, if not the title challenge. But, much has been made of Louis van Gaal’s approach to getting things right at United, and he has been at the end of loads of stick. And in a season riddled with inconsistencies and performances which have oozed unattractiveness, it is bound to happen.

Amidst all the speculation that currently surrounds Louis van Gaal, here are some reasons why the board must stick with the Iron Tulip.

  1. Flashes of attractive football

The playing style that has been compared to robotics and has said to have bounded players to chains has been a constant source of concern for the fans and the need for goals. And although, United have been boring for a majority of the season, there have been glimpses of football that is reminiscent of what the fans want- fast paced, counter attacking football. Against Newcastle, United scored thrice and adhered a counter-attacking style that often caught the Magpies off guard. Even against Chelsea, United played a highly impressive first half, in which they could’ve scored twice or thrice, provided they could’ve put away the chances they got.

Van Gaal is slowly slackening the rigidity the playing style carried to a high-tempo counter-attacking system, which suits the modern day more.

2. Hand him the cash- he’ll do the job

Right now, what United need is pace, or a player who provides the impetus of acceleration to the side which can play and score on the counter, as it has shown already. And to do that, van Gaal has to be entrusted a certain amount of money.

Agreed, he has overspent and hasn’t spent money wisely, but United do lack the pace of Di Maria. He wanted to leave for PSG and van Gaal couldn’t stop him. They just need a final piece in the attacking jigsaw.

Felipe Anderson

Felipe Anderson is being linked with a move, apart from Sadio Mane and they are the kind of players United need. Or even someone like Riyad Mahrez or Sofiane Boufal would make sense.

3. No immediate alternatives

Pep Guardiola

Reports last night were suggestive of the fact that United had had a meeting with Pep Guardiola last night and Jose Mourinho is being linked to the club too. But they are managers who have never taken charge of clubs mid-season. They start from scratch, that is when seasons begin and do their job to perfection.

More so, Mourinho won’t become the next United manager. He could’ve become the gaffer at Old Trafford much before David Moyes took charge but Sir Bobby Charlton was and is still unsure of his suitability to the club, which is a big reason. Ed Woodward is keeping him till the end of the season, despite of van Gaal’s unwillingness to carry on.

And a top four finish can’t come when you have a new manager coming in, observing how the club works and then putting his plan to implementation.
