According to a report in the Mirror, Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar has been linked with an exit to AC Milan. The Swiss international had a fantastic season for Newcastle, which was highlighted by his tremendous individual goal against Cardiff.
Schar looked especially good in the second half of the season when Rafa Benitez switched formations to a back-3 where Schar was allowed to use his ball playing abilities to build attacks from the back. He had quite a goal tally in the Premier League with 4 and he also registered an assist.
Newcastle, as expected under Benitez, have been a very solid defensive unit and Schar helped enhanced that after his move last summer. The 27-year-old is also a Swiss international and has been a mainstay in that defence for long time with 46 appearances.
Schar has played for quite a few clubs in Europe and in a lot different leagues with the likes of Basel, Hoffenheim and Deportivo La Coruna. Schar still has two years left on his deal which is why it’s imperative that he continues at St. James’ Park.
The Magpies have had a difficult summer having lost their beloved manager in Rafa Benitez. They’re also unlikely to keep Salomon Rondon at the club after his loan spell. They’ve already sold his partner in crime, Ayoze Perez, to Leicester City for a decent price and are also likely to lose midfield prodigy Sean Longstaff with Manchester United desperate for his signature.
Chances are that Steve Bruce will be hired as the new manager and his stint at Sunderland won’t help him get a very warm welcome but it’s the best that they can hope for the time being. It’s one thing to splash the money in the transfer market but to lose your best players like flies is a real hammer blow for the passionate fans that line up every week at St. James’ Park.
Fabian Schar will be fundamental to the survival of the Magpies next season and Newcastle could probably look at selling him for a profit next season as Schar will have inflated his value based on his performances next season.

There’s no doubt that Newcastle will be in a relegation battle next season and it is important that they keep a hold of the Swiss international for at least another season.
