Swansea City opinion: Swansea should snap up Kasey Palmer

According to a report in the Sky Sports, Swansea City are looking to sign Chelsea’s Kasey Palmer on loan. The Chelsea graduate has been on loan to various clubs in England including Huddersfield Town, Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City.

He was part of the Chelsea youth side that won the UEFA Youth League and has always shown a lot of promise. He also appeared for the first-team under Guus Hiddink in the 2015-16 season. He has also appeared for the England youth squads and was part of the U-21 squad at the Toulon Tournament.

He made a combined 34 appearances in the Championship last season with Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City. Swansea will know all about him having seen him last season and he has also got Championship pedigree in the past. Palmer is an attacking midfielder by trade but can also play in a deeper role and on the right-wing and left-wing.

Kasey Palmer

In his 68 appearances in the Championship to date, Palmer has registered 9 goals and 5 assists which needs to be improved upon. Palmer has a lot of strength and is great at holding play up and is also a very good dribbler, using his quick feet to get himself out of trouble and play a pass or take a shot on goal.

Swansea have lost their manager, Graham Potter, who was a very attack-minded coach and replaced him with former Wales international Steve Cooper. Cooper is a fantastic appointment and has a lot of potential to become a great manager.

He shares many of the same principles of Potter. He favours attractive football, controlling the game, and looking forward at all times. He has worked with the England youth squads which include the U-16 and U-17. Palmer would benefit greatly from playing under him.

Palmer needs to get his career back on track and Chelsea might be a stretch too far but the Premier League isn’t. Swansea found themselves in the Championship after years of great football in the Premier League under the likes of Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup.

Conclusion

They are trying to go back to the same ethos and Palmer will benefit greatly from working under someone like Cooper and Swansea will have ambitions to go back into the Premier League by playing the right way.
