Is This Arsenal’s Strongest Starting Lineup Once Mesut Ozil Returns

Goalkeeper

Wojciech Szczęsny

The Polish goalkeeper is one of the finest in his position in the world right now. After a few shaky seasons under the bar, Szczesny has now grown into a fine custodian. Last season was undoubtedly one of his best seasons so far for Arsenal as he managed to keep 16 clean sheets. Even though, Wenger signed talented goalkeeper from Colombia, David Ospina, the Pole is poised to be the number one goalkeeper in Arsenal colours in this season.

Defense

Right-back: Mathieu Debuchy

Arsenal’s right back position for years was filled by talented French defender Bacary Sagna. But after his contract period ran out both the club and the player decided to part ways after the end of last season. As a result Arsene Wenger opted to rope in another French man Mathieu Debuchy who is as dependable as Sagna in the right back/ wing back position. Debuchy played well for France this World Cup and started in all the games in place of Sagna. Debuchy has so far played very few games as he remained out of the field for almost the entire period so far. But he is one of the finest right backs in the league right now and gives the Arsenal back line as well as the attack an extra weight age.

Center backs: Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny

The partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny proved to be a grand success last season. The French and the German defender shares great communication among each other and their partnership at the center back position has proved to be dependable for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Left-back: Kieran Gibbs

Kieran Gibbs has come a long way from becoming a shaky cover of Gael Clichy to become one of the finest left backs in the country right now. Gibbs is currently the best left back Arsenal has right now. The young English man has improved a lot both defensively and in his attacking approach. Gibbs often overlaps down the left flank and provide quality crosses to the attackers.

Midfielders

Central midfield: Jack Wilshere

After Cesc Fabregas left the club for FC Barcelona, Wenger groomed Jack Wilshere pretty well to inherit the role of a playmaking central midfielder. Wilshere performs a pivotal role behind the attacking midfielders. Even though Wilshere does not possess the capacity of being a box to box midfielder, he can score goals and create plenty. He is the best possible central midfielder Wenger has right now.

Central midfield: Aaron Ramsey

The Welsh midfielder has grown up to be one of the finest midfielder in the league right now. Aaron Ramsey faces injury crisis quite often but whenever he plays, he lends great strength to his team. He is quite versatile and can play in any position in the midfield. He has scored some wonder goals for Arsenal in this season and also generated quality assists. He is perfect man to accompany Jack Wilshere in the central midfield position.

Right-wing: Alexis Sanchez

Arsene Wenger made the best signing of the club this summer, when he roped in an out of favour Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona. Sanchez has so far lived up to the expectation and proved Wenger’s decision to be a bargain buy. He guides the team in the attacking zone. He has scored the lion’s share of goals for his team in this season and provided a number of assists to the strikers. His work rate has been simply outstanding.

Left-wing: Santi Cazorla

Santi Cazorla is one of the most underrated stars in world football. The quality he possesses is simply outstanding and there is no replacement for Cazorla in the Arsenal team. He provides versatility to the team’s attack force and can play in any position. With Ozil in the starting lineup, Wenger is expected to field the Spanish midfielder in the left side of the attacking trio. His ability to play with both the foot adds an extra advantage to Arsene Wenger. Cazorla often cuts in to the center and hassles the opponent defenders with impeccable skills.

Central attacking-midfielder: Mesut Ozil

Mesut Ozil was bought by Arsene Wenger last season from Real Madrid. Ozil’s debut in the London club was quite fascinating. He provided a number of goal assists and Arsenal was at the top of the table in first half of the 2013/14 season. Unfortunately he was forced to stay out of the team for the majority of the second half of the season, due to a grueling injury which affected Arsenal’s title hopes. This season Alexis Sanchez joined Arsenal and the team found a new talisman in the Chilean. Now that Ozil is recovering, Wenger would hope that both his marquee signings gel properly and convert Arsenal attack into a lethal force.

Striker

Olivier Giroud

Arsenal has failed to find a quality striker since the departure of Robin van Persie in 2012. Arsene Wenger bought Olivier Giroud in the same season, who had a commendable track record in the French league. But, Giroud’s performance has not been convincing so far. He is inconsistent and fails to deliver in big match circumstances. On the transfer deadline day, Wenger had bought Danny Welbeck from Manchester United as a cover for Giroud. Welbeck has so far played decently but he will not be considered as a first team striker ahead of Olivier Giroud. Giroud has great physical appearance and his aerial ability is also good.
