Why Chelsea Should Hold On To Their Midfield Engine And Avoid Rumours Linking Them With Newcastle Man

Share

In recent rumours, Chelsea have been linked with Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko among other attacking players. The Frenchman has been a consistent performer for Newcastle with his raw style of play and work rate and would be a good addition to most top teams be it in the starting line-up or from the bench. Recently he has admitted that he would love to play for a top club, meaning either of the English top four or five would be favourites to land him if they bid.

But a case of buying Sissoko and replacing him in the role of Ramires is something that needs to be dismissed as soon as possible. Ramires may have struggled for fitness and regularity this season, but he has always been a trusted man for Jose Mourinho and has always delivered when it mattered the most.

Here are three reasons why Ramires must not be exchanged for someone like Sissoko.

  1. Ramires is an experience top club player.

The Brazilian has been a Chelsea regular ever since he’s been in the club and has won the Champions League, FA Cup and the Europa League. He has been in winning squads and has gelled with the mentality that Mourinho wants to maintain in the team. Ramires is also unique as he offers raw pace and energy. He’s definitely quicker than Sissoko and offers more depth and chemistry with other Brazilian and Spanish players.

  1. He has been Jose Mourinho’s trusted men

After last night’s win against Liverpool, Jose Mourinho praised Ramires and expressed his extreme joy in Ramires’ return to full fitness after the Brazilian completely negated Liverpool’s pressing and their tactics after he replaced Fabregas who injured himself. Sissoko is similar to Ramires’ style but would be new, raw and inexperienced in a Chelsea team which has already found the right balance for this season at least.

  1. Sissoko is a poor deal for Chelsea.

Ramires has been a player who has proved himself in the Champions League and has attracted interest from top clubs like Real Madrid. If he continues to perform at a strong level like yesterday for the rest of the season, then he is bound to fetch much more money in the market if Chelsea want to sell him at all. Chelsea have also been rumoured to offer Ramires to Juventus in a swap for Pogba earlier in the summer and that makes Ramires a key asset in the club.

Unless Chelsea get a monumental bid from one of the top clubs for the engine of their midfield in Ramires, they wouldn’t be interested to sell him especially since Mourinho said “My Ramires is back.” But if at all they sell him, the Blues would still go for a more proven and world class talent to improve on Ramires than go for a simple Premier League replacement.
