Injury Concerns? 3 Reasons Why Arsenal Should Chase This Dream Signing Despite Injury Woes

Share

If reports from Dailymail are to be believed, Gunners Boss Arsene Wenger will not be deterred to make an audacious £37m bid FC Schalke’s Julian Draxler in the coming days. The 20 year old German wonder kid needs specialist treatment for a ruptured tendon casting a major doubt over his move to the London side. Well, it’s still unclear the extent of Draxler’s ruptured tendon and till when he might miss out regularly, but here are the three reasons why Arsenal must pursue their chase of Julian Draxler despite his injury.

Attacking prowess:

Given Arsenal’s wafer thin squad, their title aspirations and need for an apt striker to support Giroud up front, I for one wouldn’t be surprised if Wenger does mould him into a lone front man. With an exquisite ball control, enviable dynamism and vision, Draxler is highly rated in his native Germany. His maturity is beyond his years and with Schalke hierarchy admitting they are powerless to stop him moving, once his release clause is met, this perhaps might be the right time to pounce for the Gunners. His dazzling ability likens him to former Gunner Robin Van Persie, who had that imperious eye for goals and could change any game by the scruff of its neck.

To Support Olivier Giroud:

Major reports claim, Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is set to veto Lewis Holtby’s loan move to Schalke in an attempt to prevent Draxler from joining the Gunners. It all started with the snowball effect with Gervinho going to Roma, Lamela to Tottenham, Bale to Real Madrid and finally Ozil to Emirates to complete the merry go round. But if we take the probabilistic side out of the equation, Wenger does need someone who can take the burden off his major striker Olivier Giroud. Theo Walcott’s injury too has come at the wrong time, ruled out for six months when he was just reaching his peak and Podolski’s lack of confidence to play as a lone striker in the final third.

This is where Draxler will come handy, playing as a second striker, making space for others, dragging defenders out of position and also getting into the scoresheet. Wenger surely would be elated to add another young, creative talent to his ranks, but it seems Tottenham will try desperately to scupper the deal from materialising.

History repeats itself:

If I am not wrong, no team in recent memory has won the Premier League with just one recognized number nine or a lethal striker, as fans might call it. Manchester City have an enviable armoury, Chelsea are keen to add to their ranks, United might be on a downfall, but they have Van Persie, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez while Liverpool have the deadly duo of Suarez and Sturridge. Strikers hunt in pairs, as we all know and if history is to be believed, who knows Arsenal might be perhaps a striker away from their long lost and famed Premier League crown.
