Strongest Liverpool Line-up To Play Against Aston Villa – SAS In The Heart Of Things For The Reds

Share

Saturday’s late night kick off sees fourth placed Liverpool take on a hot and cold Aton Villa side as the home side look to continue their imperious run of form and lay claim to their Champions League aspirations. Brendan Rodgers’ team go into the clash on the back of an 8 goal thriller at the Britannia stadium last weekend with the match finishing in favour of the Reds with an astounding scoreline of 3-5. Although, they have leaked 3 goals the Merseyside club would be full of confidence and the way the talismanic striker Uruguayan Luis Suarez is playing at this moment, defensive mistaken might be of a little concern.

Liverpool also have Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge back through injuries and Paul Lambert’s Villa outfit will have to be wary of the Sturridge and Suarez threat in the final third. The Claret and Blue are currently eleventh in the EPL Table but will look to get at least something from Anfield and to do so need to stop a well oiled Liverpool machine. So what would be Liverpool’s best starting lineup when they take the pitch against the Villains on a chilly Saturday night?

We here at Soccersouls have the answer:

Goalkeeping:

Simon Mingolet is expected to be very busy under the sticks manning the Liverpool goal. The Belgian shot stopper has to be wary of long rangers from distance, and threats up front with the likes of Christian Benteke and Gabriel Agbonlahor in the final third.

Defence:

Whatever the defence of the home side is going to be, Brendan Rodgers needs to send out a strong squad which can contain the likes of Benteke and Agbonlahor up front. Glen Johnson will certainly play in the right back slot with Aly Cissokho manning the defensive side in the other flank as John Flannagan and Jose Enrique still out. Martin Skrtel will have to be well aware to his mistakes and shouldn’t go into wrestling with the two strikers up front, lest he will have to pay for his mistakes he is making in each passing game. The Slovakian will partner Kolo Toure as Mamadou Sakho still sweating over his hamstring.

Midfield:

Steven Gerrard will perhaps again play very deep in the midfield role as he and Lucas Leiva will be given the job to protect the back four. Phillipe Coutinho will be starting from the left again as either of Raheem Sterling or Jordan Henderson will be playing down the right to provide width on the pitch. The English-Brazilian pair has been challenged by Rodgers to find the back of the net more often and take the goal scoring pressure off Suarez and the fit again Daniel Sturridge.

Forwards:

Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge are expected to start together up front once again and are ready to send shivers down the spine of the Premier League defences. Paul Lambert will have to work out a game plan to stop the rampaging Uruguayan from scoring or be limited to damage limitation as Sturridge too is more than capable of scoring for fun, as demonstrated before he got injured.  I for one wouldn’t be surprised if the game is buried by the first half.
