According to the Examiner, Huddersfield Town are still interested in making a move for Everton starlet Kieran Dowell. The Terriers have been relegated after a rather miserable second season in the Premier League but left with their heads held high.
It was a rather sensational downfall, with the club’s fate all but confirmed by January. They failed to win any of their first 10 games, with just three points coming from it, which meant that the club was sitting at the bottom by the end of October.
That changed with their first win against fellow relegated side Fulham, but things did not improve, with the Terriers adding just two more wins to their name before the end of the season.
That included two wins against Wolves and the lone win against Fulham, which saw them finish with just 16 points. It’s what needs to change if Huddersfield are to have a chance of surviving the Championship next season, and adding Kieran Dowell might just be the way to go.
The 21-year-old was once considered a rather brilliant talent but so far, he just hasn’t lived up to his potential, failing to make the most out of his loan spells with Walsall.
However, where he did flourish was at Nottingham Forest, with the attacking midfielder contributing with 15 goals in all competitions.
It’s an impressive tally but one that Kieran Dowell has failed to match since then. A versatile man, Dowell can play anywhere across the front line but his preferred position is as an attacking midfielder or out wide on the right-hand side.
It allows him to glide past defenders before cutting in and unleashing a rather powerful shot with his stronger left foot. That has made a massive difference for teams in the past and with time, the 21-year-old has adapted to a more central role.
That’s exactly where Huddersfield Town could use another player, as there is only so much either Aaron Mooy or Juninho Bacuna can do. With time, and under Jan Siewart, a manager known for his ability to work with younger stars, Kieran Dowell will be able to find his way back.
