Leeds United using the chance to land this Burnley star for £10m would be a very smart move by Bielsa

Leeds United opinion: Should the Whites go all out to sign Matej Vydra?

According to the Sun (9/6/19 page 60) (h/t Lancs Live), Burnley are willing to cash in on Vydra for £10million. Leeds United were earlier linked with a move for Vydra, with Sky Sports reporting that the move fell collapsed due to personal terms.

Matej Vydra, 27, was the top scorer in the Championship during the 2017/18 campaign, scoring 21 goals in 40 league appearances as Derby County finished sixth in the table then. That saw Burnley snap up the Czech Republic international from Derby last summer.

However, the 27-year-old forward endured a torrid debut campaign at Turf Moor and the Clarets are already planning to offload him this summer in a bid to recoup around £10million for the player, the report adds.

Despite scoring only once in 13 Premier League games this past season, Leeds United have reignited their interest in Vydra, as Marcelo Bielsa hopes to challenge for promotion once again.

Marcelo Bielsa should have learnt his lessons after failing to guide the Whites to top-flight promotion last term. Bielsa has shown throughout his relatively short time at the club that he is flexible in his approach and is not afraid to hand youngsters a chance.

The Yorkshire giants play an exciting, attacking brand of football and will be expected to challenge at the top of the Championship next season.

Bielsa must make some top additions to his squad despite already having an abundance of talent at his disposal at Elland Road. Squad depth plays a crucial role in any league and currently, the Whites doesn’t seem to have that.

Therefore, the Argentinean tactician should bring in a forward to bolster his attacking options following last season’s injury problems to Patrick Bamford and Kemar Roofe. To put things into perspective, Matej Vydra would be a good choice for the Whites.

Capable of leading the line, playing as a secondary striker or on the right flank, Vydra is at his best when deployed through the middle, which allows him to create space for his himself and have a crack on goal.

The 27-year-old not only excels at beating defenders with his trickery and burst of acceleration but he is also equally adept at holding onto the ball with his back facing the goal.

With his dribbling skills and off-the-ball movement, the Czech will bring a certain level of directness to the Whites’ play.

A natural goalscorer, Vydra knows the Championship in and out and has a fantastic record in England’s second tier. He’ll certainly be of huge help for Leeds in their cause next season if Bielsa manages to bring the 27-year-old to Elland Road.

Verdict

Therefore, by signing Vydra from Burnley, Bielsa could solve Leeds’ goalscoring problem as he’ll have more than enough talent to be challenging Roofe and Bamford for a place in the first-team next season.
