Huddersfield Town news: Should the Terriers go for Bartlomiej Dragowski?

They tried but in the end, Huddersfield Town’s efforts amounted to nothing. The Terriers finished rock bottom in the Premier League, winning just 3 games and drawing a further 7 more.

It was a rather stunning decline but one that was to be expected. Somehow, by hook or crook under David Wagner, the club managed to survive.

They survived their first season in the Premier League, thanks to a lethal counter attack and reliable goalscorers. But things changed in Wagner’s second season with the Terriers failing to net goals. Their defensive record wasn’t always the best but they managed to make up for it by scoring goals.

However, once that dries up and the strikers find both chances and shots hard to come by, it adds to the pressure. That’s exactly what happened to the club and by mid-December, they were already rock bottom and going nowhere.

Sure, they had a chance to make it back up if a winning streak was put together. But given their problems in the first half of the season, few fans and even critics gave them any hope of doing that.

Yet, with their relegation confirmed as soon as February, it gave the club a chance to start planning for their future.

A future without a few key players and a future that one day will see them back in the Premier League. However, to do that, they first need to add a reliable shot-stopper with Jonnas Lossl having left the club and joined Everton. It leaves the Terriers with just Ben Hamer and Joel Coleman.

Instead, they need more reliable options and that’s exactly what Bartlomiej Dragowski is. A supremely talented goalkeeper, the 21-year-old has done exceptionally well at Empoli.

While the move is a loan spell from parent club Fiorentina, the fact that the Viola have Alban Lafont as their main-man does open the door. That has seen the Examiner Live report that the Terriers are keen on a move.

And it’s a move that Huddersfield Town have to make because in this day and age, there are few goalkeepers as talented as Dragowski. The 21-year-old recently made headlines when he kept a clean sheet despite facing 47 shots.

This included 17 saves, which is a Serie A record. It’s a stunning stat and one that showcases just how good the 21-year-old has been for Empoli. But now with the season over and Fiorentina open to a move according to the Examiner Live, it’s a move that will only help Huddersfield Town.

However, things will get complicated with the report further adding that Southampton and West Ham are also in the race. That will undoubtedly add to the drama to the transfer saga but this is a race that has to be won by Huddersfield Town.

Conclusion

Huddersfield Town have to start looking towards the future and one way they can do that is by adding the right players. More than anything, Bartlomiej Dragowski is exactly that and his age along with his talent makes the move a no-brainer.
