Watford opinion: Should the Hornets make a move for Ismaila Sarr?

Watford reached the FA Cup finals from out of the blue. They beat Wolves in a sensational semi-final match and would go on to face Manchester City. However, the Cityzens and their squad of near perfect robots proved to be too much for the Hornets.

In the end, the FA Cup final ended with a 6-0 scoreline, giving Manchester City their first domestic treble. However, even despite that, Watford’s domestic season wasn’t that bad. They finished 11th in the table but could have been much higher if their final few games had gone well.

Instead, the Hornets finished with just the one point in their final four games. That sent them into a downfall from a potential 7th place finish all the way to 11th. It showed why things need to change for the club in the near future.

Under Javi Gracia, Watford have proven to be a worthy opponent to a few sides. The former Malaga manager has done very well in his first season, getting the best out of more than a few stars along the way.

But that won’t be enough, especially if the club wants to fight well above their weight class. To do that, they need to make a few changes to their current squad and add the right players. Their recruitment over the last few seasons has been good but it has also seen a few flops.

Gerard Deulofeu did well but both Ken Sema and Isaac Success have failed. Roberto Pereyra also did well but he had no-one backing him. That’s been Watford’s biggest issue, with Troy Deeney and Deulofeu finishing with 19 goals combined.

To put that in perspective, Andre Gray, Pereyra and Abdoulaye Doucoure finished with 18 goals. It’s a stark difference and needs to change. It’s why a move for Ismaila Sarr makes a lot of sense, with the 21-year-old linked with a move via the Metro.

The report further adds that Monaco have also shown interest alongside fellow Premier League side Arsenal. But given their situation, it’s Watford who need to win the race.

The young forward finished his season with 13 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. It means that Sarr outscored every single Watford player.

That alone should convince the club to win the race. With his pace, strength and clinical nature in front of goal, it makes the move a mouth-watering prospect.

Conclusion

Watford are doing well under Javi Gracia but there is only so much the manager can do without the right additions. Someone like Ismaila Sarr is just the man to walk in and change things.
