Here are two players Chelsea must offload in the January transfer window

Chelsea endured a disappointing last season under former manager Antonio Conte that saw them finish fifth in the table and miss out on a spot in the Champions League.

Conte did salvage the season by winning the FA Cup but he was shown the door soon with the Chelsea board replacing him with Maurizio Sarri.

Under Sarri, Chelsea have made a rollicking start to the season and are only one of the three sides to stay unbeaten in the Premier League. The Italian manager has a very fluid playing system, where he expects his players to keep possession, pass quickly and press higher up the pitch when not in possession.

The players Sarri had brought in during the summer transfer window have settled down very well at Stamford Bridge. Now that he knows his squad in and out, the Italian must clear out some deadwood and bring in a couple of fresh faces in January.

Hence, here are two players Chelsea must offload in the winter window.

Danny Drinkwater

Danny Drinkwater joined Chelsea from Leicester City last summer for a fee of around £35m, as per the Guardian.

Drinkwater, 28, played a crucial role for Leicester in their title-winning campaign, forging a formidable midfield partnership with N’Golo Kante, who joined Chelsea in 2016.

But Drinkwater failed to live up to the billing at Stamford Bridge as injuries hampered his progress under Antonio Conte. The England international managed just five Premier League starts last season.

Currently, the midfielder finds himself behind Kante, Jorginho, Cesc Fabregas, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley in the pecking order and is yet to make an appearance this season. Without any second thoughts, Sarri must offload Drinkwater in January to try and recoup some amount of money that Chelsea paid for the midfielder.

Gary Cahill

Gary Cahill, 32, has racked up nearly 300 appearances for Chelsea and more than 60 for England, but has slipped down the pecking order this season under Maurizio Sarri.

Gary Cahill

Cahill may want first-team football and Sarri must certainly oblige by letting him leave in January. Moreover, with the England international’s contract expiring at the end of the season, Sarri would be wise to sell him once the transfer window reopens rather lose him for free next summer.

Cahill has been a fantastic servant for the Blues but sadly, the centre-back’s best days are behind him and surely, Sarri must get rid of the player.
