Southampton Player Ratings vs Bournemouth – Here’s how the Saints fared

Southampton played out a goalless draw with Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium to end their run of losses in the Premier League. The Saints ended a run of three consecutive defeats in the league and gained a valuable point at home against their south coast neighbours.

However, had it not been for Asmir Begovic making four smart saves, Mark Hughes could have taken all three points from the game. This result puts the away side on six points, a point clear of relegation. Meanwhile, Bournemouth are on 17 points, four shy of the top-four.

Alex McCarthy (7)

Did nothing wrong during the game and made a couple of easy saves to get a clean sheet.

Cedric Soares (6)

Defended well by tracking the runs and covering the spaces. But he wasn’t effective going forward.

Jack Stephens (7)

A very good and solid performance from Stephens who commanded his area very well. Must now keep his place in the team.

Wesley Hoedt (7)

The Dutchman has had a twitchy the start to the season but he was anything but twitchy today. A composed performance alongside Stephens.

Ryan Bertrand (6)

Drifted out of the game at times as he failed to make an impact. A mid-standard game from the ex-Chelsea left-back.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (7)

A very mobile and steady performance from the Dane in the midfield.

Mario Lemina (6)

Just like his midfield partner, Lemina was also solid and secure on and off the ball. Came off injured.

Mohamed Elyounoussi (6)

Didn’t carry much threat going forward, which would be a concern. He tracked back well to stop the opposition full-backs from having an easy run forward.

Nathan Redmond (6)

Tried to make things happen but it didn’t happen often during the game.

Danny Ings (6)

Worked hard on and off the ball for the team. He didn’t receive the service to really feed off.

Charlie Austin (4)

A poor display from Austin, who failed to offer anything up front. Was subbed off after 78 mins.
