Wigan Athletic Player Ratings vs West Brom – Here’s how the Latics fared

A Josh Windass goal won Wigan Athletic the game against West Brom, whose seven-game unbeaten run is over in the Championship. The Englishman scored 16 minutes from time when he latched onto a long clearance from keeper Christian Walton.

This win puts the home team at 7th place in the table. West Brom are third now, having missed the chance to get three points in this game and go top of the table. Wigan are now only one point behind the playoff spot and would be fancying their chances in the upcoming games to further climb the table.

Wigan Athletic Player Ratings

Christian Walton (6)

A poor punch would have presented the opportunity to West Brom had Kieran Gibbs been more alert. However, long ball fell kindly for Windass to score the winner. Was not really troubled all afternoon.

Reece James (7)

A steady performance from James in the defensive department. Got a yellow card

Cedric Kipre (7)

A solid performance from the centre-back. He was a part of a back-line which kept a clean sheet against a free-scoring West Brom side.

Cheyenne Dunkley (6)

Missed a great chance to double the lead 10 minutes from time. Made a challenge on Harvey Barnes in the box but the youngster got booked instead of the defender.

Dan Burn

Dan Burn (7)

A steady performance from the Englishman who ventured forward when required.

Lee Evans (7)

A good performance from Evans in the midfield, steadying the ship and winning possession in his own half to break the attacks. Was decent on the ball.

Sam Morsy (6)

Created a good chance for Windass, only for the forward to drift his effort wide. Got booked very early in the game, which rather forced him to be cautious.

Gary Roberts (8)

A man of the match performance from Roberts where his desire was too much for the Albion defence at times. He was twice denied by Sam Johnstone or he would have been on the scoresheet as well.

Nathan Byrne (6)

A rather quiet game for the 26-year-old, probably the one which got away from the player. But he put in a good shift for the team.

Josh Windass (C)

Josh Windass (8)

Scored the winner, latching onto a long ball from the goalkeeper. He was a constant danger to the opposition defence, making probing runs and having a pop at the goal whenever the chance arose.

Nick Powell (7)

Not his best game but he led the line well and had a pop at goal once or twice. His free-kick was disappointing though.

Subs

Callum Connolly (Subbed on after 87 mins) (N/A)

Came on to preserve the team’s lead.

Kal Naismith (Subbed on after 90 mins) (N/A)

Came on late to add energy to the midfield.
