English news outlet Sun has reported that Everton may consider selling goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and replace him with Nick Pope.
The 25-year-old has been an absolute star at Goodison Park since his move from Sunderland two years ago for £30m but he could find his time at Merseyside coming to an end.
Manchester United believe that the English international is the perfect replacement for David De Gea, with the Spaniard being out of contract in the summer (Metro). This has seen the Red Devils go out in search of replacements.
Jordan Pickford and Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak are their top targets, and this does give Everton a problem in the near future. However, as mentioned above, the Toffees are looking to replace Pickford with Burnley’s Nick Pope.
A reliable pair of hands, the 26-year-old Pope has missed large parts of this season due to injuries. He started the pre-season and even the Europa League qualifiers but dislocated his shoulder in the very first game.
This has seen him miss 28 games. Tom Heaton has taken over and Pope has had to sit out the last 10 games for the club. However, this isn’t to say that the Englishman is a bad goalkeeper, in fact, far from it.
Pope was Burnley’s top man last season, proving to be as reliable as Pickford between the sticks. Standing at 6ft 2in, Pope is not the tallest goalkeeper but makes up for it with his agility and reflexes.
His decision-making and intelligence are important facets of his game that might even give him the edge over Pickford. He can play as effectively with his feet as he does with his hands, which suits Marco Silva’s style of play.

Everton harbour ambitions of making it to the top 4 in the coming seasons. It would be a herculean task but it’s not impossible.
However, they need to have a reliable goalkeeper and Jordan Pickford is that type of player. However, if they lose him, then Nick Pope would be a brilliant option and he has shown with consistent game time that he’s among the very best English goalkeepers.
