Bournemouth opinion: Should the Cherries sign Timothy Weah?

According to a report from the Scottish Times, Bournemouth have entered the race with Celtic sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Timothy Weah.

The report reveals that Cherries sent scout Mark Burchill to watch the youngster in action for the USA under-23’s last month and now are now interested in signing him in the summer.

Weah is currently on loan with the Scottish champions, who are also keen to make the 18-year-old’s deal permanent. However, Bournemouth would be making a brilliant addition to their squad by signing Weah and Eddie Howe should make a move in the summer.

Bournemouth are currently 13th in the table and have had a mixed season so far. The Cherries have lost just 5 of their 17 home games this season but have massively struggled on the road. Eddie Howe’s side have lost 12 of their 16 away games and this has mainly been due to their lack of goals.

15 goals in 16 away games for a side aiming to be in the top half of the table is simply not good enough and Eddie Howe needs to bolster his attack in the summer. One player who would certainly have a positive impact is Timothy Weah.

Son of former Ballon d’Or winner George Weah, Timothy has mainly been used off the bench in the Scottish Premier League but he has had a brilliant impact whenever he has come on.

The American has scored 3 goals in 335 minutes of action this season and has been a huge hit at Celtic Park.

Weah is a versatile forward who is capable of playing anywhere across the front three. The youngster possesses electric pace and that combined with his dribbling skills make him almost impossible to stop at times.

Bournemouth could certainly do with a player like Weah who can have the kind of impact that Ryan Fraser has had all season. Fraser has contributed to 6 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season and Weah alongside him would cause serious damage to the opposition.

However, Fraser’s performances this season have seen Premier League giants Arsenal get linked with a move for the 25-year-old. Bournemouth will be dealt with a massive blow if the former Ipswich winger leaves but signing Weah will certainly soften it.

Conclusion

Bournemouth will have a real gem on their hands if they manage to sign Timothy Weah in the summer. The youngster’s skills on the ball will bring the Vitality faithful on their feet and the Cherries will massively benefit from his pace and versatility.
