Chelsea splashing €50m to land this 21-year-old Fabregas replacement would well be worth the squeeze

Why Chelsea will benefit from signing Italian youngster Nicolo Barella

Football Italia has reported that Cagliari and Italian youngster Nicolo Barella is subject to a massive €50million move soon. The Blues are not the only ones in the race for the 21-year-old, with Arsenal, Manchester United (h/t ESPN) and AS Roma (h/t Calciomercato) all interested. However, given the fact that Chelsea are set to lose Cesc Fabregas, it would be a like-to-like replacement.

The 21-year-old has time on his side and this season, he has shown that he can step up to help the team when required. For Chelsea, this means a lot as they will have to shell out around €50million.

It’s no surprise to see everyone chasing after the midfielder, especially after a rather incredible start to his career with his national side. Playing alongside Chelsea man Jorginho, Barella has shown composure and maturity well beyond his age and will only further improve if he is given the time.

Moreover, his ability on the ball is second to none and his ability to dictate the play is something any top level team needs. For the Italian national team, it would be beneficial if Chelsea sign the player as he will play alongside compatriot Jorginho. For manager Maurizio Sarri too, it’s the best possible move as Barella would be a gem for any side in the world.

If it’s the stats that one wants, Barella has averaged 2.6 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, and 1.6 fouls per game in all competitions this season. That’s just his defensive statistics. Barella has a pass success of 82.5%, makes an average of 1.1 key passes a game and an average of 2.5 long passes a game according to Whoscored.

He’s already been compared (Via Fox News) to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard. Though he isn’t as good as the English great when it comes to scoring goals, it should change with more experience.

Chelsea would be landing a terrific young talent if they manage to sign Barella. The Blues are improving under Sarri and if they are to make amends for the loss of Cesc Fabregas, Barella would be a brilliant option.

The young Italian would be nothing but a good signing for Chelsea and though the transfer fee would be €50m, it should well be worth it due to his young age and outstanding ability.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
