According to the Daily Mail, Real Madrid are set to complete the signing of 19-year-old Manchester City starlet Brahim Diaz in a £15.5million deal.
The Los Blancos have long expressed their interest in the Spaniard and they are likely to catapult Diaz straight into the first-team rather than sending him to join the Castilla squad (h/t Daily Mail).
Real’s fee for the 19-year-old can rise up to £20million with add-ons. While the Cityzens have also included a sell-on clause in the deal which will allow the club to bag a share of the profit should Real Madrid sell him to any other club in the future. And that share of profit can rise to 40% should Madrid sell him to Manchester United (h/t Daily Mail).
Diaz, who is held in very high regard at Manchester City, has become disillusioned with the lack of genuine first-team opportunities in the Premier League. Diaz was signed from Malaga as a 16-year-old back in 2015 and he signed his first professional contract in 2016.
He made his senior debut in the EFL Cup in 2016 but had to wait until 2018 to make his bow in the Premier League. He made a few sporadic substitute appearances in the second half of the last season but he is yet to register an appearance in the league this term.
The 19-year-old played the last fifteen minutes of Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield and has made three appearances for the Cityzens in the EFL Cup this season. He scored a brace as City beat Fulham 2-0 in the quarterfinals but that hasn’t been enough to convince Pep Guardiola to field him in the Premier League.
With Jadon Sancho making the headlines in the Bundesliga with his scintillating performances for Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City are set to face another huge blow with the loss of the immensely talented Brahim Diaz.
Diaz has shown at youth and reserve level that he is a player with huge potential and losing him could spell disaster for the Sky Blues.
The Spanish youngster could have become the long-term successor to the throne of David Silva at Manchester City but that does not look like a possibility anymore with Diaz closing in on a move to Real Madrid.
Diaz has a fantastic well-rounded game for a 19-year-old. He has already shown that both the technical and the tactical aspects of his game are equally developed and his decision-making and composure at such a young age simply defies belief.
The youngster has shown excellent close control and real quality on the ball as well as the vision and awareness to bring a dead attack to life, something that David Silva does so often for City.
Hence, City should do anything and everything in their power and leave no stone unturned in their efforts to convince Diaz to stay put at the Etihad. He has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new deal but City should try their level best to tie him down to a new and lucrative long-term contract.
