Arsenal splashing £14m on this La Liga star would be a total waste and Emery should avoid it at all costs

Why Arsenal should avoid signing Real Madrid star Keylor Navas

The Mirror has reported that Arsenal are more than ready to make a £14million bid for Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas. The club already spent a good chunk of money to sign Bernd Leno and while the German star has been off his game in recent outings, that’s no excuse to spend more on another shot-stopper.

There is no doubting Navas’ talent in goal and though he would make a wonderful addition to the Arsenal line-up, it will most likely be the same situation. At the moment, the Real Madrid man has played second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois and has thus made only seven appearances in major competitions for the club all season.

This has not only left the 32-year-old unhappy but also open to a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu in the near future, with Arsenal and even AS Roma interested in the Costa Rican’s signature.

Keylor Navas

However, for Arsenal, the question does arise, do they really need the three-time Champions League winning shot-stopper? While his experience and calmness in goal would be useful, the Gunners already have two goalkeepers on their books in Bernd Leno and Petr Cech.

While the German international has only recently arrived and is 26 years old, Cech is closer to 35 and thus, it may make sense to find a good second choice. But should that be Keylor Navas?

The answer to that is something only Arsenal and Navas himself can answer, as the Costa Rican star has already shown that he is unhappy playing second fiddle to anyone. So why will he leave Real Madrid for Arsenal, only to continue doing the same thing?

Moreover, the Gunners have looked short defensively at times and should look to buy that one world-class centre-back to strengthen their back line. This, in turn, will help Bernd Leno and improve the confidence in the squad, something similar to what signing Virgil Van Dijk has done for Liverpool.

To conclude, Arsenal would be wasting their money by signing Keylor Navas. They should rather stick to their current choice of goalkeepers and look to strengthen their defence instead.
