Celtic FC Opinion: The Hoops shouldn’t have any second thoughts on extending Forrest’s contract

According to The Daily Record, Celtic manager Neil Lennon has opened talks regarding a contract extension for James Forrest, as he wants the Scottish ace to commit his future at Celtic Park.

The 28-year-old still has three more years left on his current contract but the former Hibernian manager wants him to extend his stay beyond that.

James Forrest

Forrest is worthy of going down as one of the most substantial players in the Hoops’ history, as his contribution over the course cannot be taken for granted at all.

Being a homegrown talent, the Scotsman didn’t break into prominence straightaway because of some injury struggles in the initial half of his career.

By all means of hard work, Forrest continued to shatter the odds stacked against him and there has been humongous progress in the past three seasons.

Following the 2015/16 season, the Hoops forward was able to garner 43 goals and 43 assists in the following campaigns. And the 2018/19 season turned out to be his best, as he bagged a flurry of individual honours.

Furthermore, Forrest has won 17 major honours with the Hoops’ main team as of now. He has also earned 30 caps for Scotland’s national team.

Forrest – an irreplaceable asset for Celtic

The Hoops’ attacking-line-up has always been chopped and changed. However, Forrest’s presence seemed to be the one constant thing.

James Forrest

Whether it was Moussa Dembele in the past or with Odsonne Edouard as of now, the Scots winger always showed compatibility.

One of Forrest’s best traits is his knack for scoring in the big matches – his goals in Scottish Cups semi-finals and in the Old Firm derbies last season were some of the most eye-catching.

Final Verdict

Lennon’s objective would be to make his mark in the Champions League, as the Bhoys must aim to dominate beyond the Scottish League. With that being said, Forrest would be a key figure for the Hoops and extending his stay beyond 2022 is an absolute no-brainer.
