Burnley Opinion: Why the Clarets should make a move for Victor Camarasa?

According to a report from Wales Online, Burnley are leading the chase for Real Betis midfielder Victor Camarasa.

The Spaniard, 25, spent the last season loan at Cardiff City from Real Betis and impressed with his creative displays.

He was arguably the Bluebirds’ standout performer during the 2018/19 campaign, scoring five goals and four assists in 32 Premier League games. However, Cardiff were relegated from the Premier League and Camarasa has subsequently returned to Real Betis after his loan spell came to an end.

West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City said to be the clubs interested in the Spanish midfielder, who has a release clause of around £21m in his contract, the report adds.

Nevertheless, with Tottenham most certain to keep hold of Christian Eriksen and the likes of West Ham and Leicester City signing Pablo Fornals and Youri Tielemans respectively, Burnley may feel confident of landing Camarasa.

Having recently signed left-back Erik Pieters and forward Jay Rodriguez from Stoke City and West Brom respectively, Burnley have already looked to address key areas to improve from last season.

The Clarets flirted with relegation this past season but eventually finished 15th on the table. Sean Dyche just cannot finish his summer transfer business with two signings and must add more quality to his squad to achieve a top-half finish next term.

One area where Dyche should address is the central midfield, with some creativity and energy required to be pumped in. Ashley Westwood and Jack Cork are solid and tenacious customers but they aren’t known for their creativity. Steven Defour has been unlucky with injuries since his arrival at Burnley and subsequently, cannot be relied upon.

With that in mind, the Clarets should go all out for Camarasa, who is a versatile midfielder.

The Spaniard is an all-action midfielder who can create goalscoring opportunities as well as get back to the dirty job. A slick passer of the ball, the 25-year-old loves to create space for himself with subtle twists and turns and carve open defences at will.

He is a skilled technician, comfortable with the ball at his feet with the ability to turn defence into attack quickly.

The ex-Levante ace’s eye for through balls and key passes in the final third make him a potent goal threat and Burnley should cherish the prospect of having a goalscoring midfielder in their ranks.

Furthermore, Camarasa didn’t find it tough to adjust to the rigours of the Premier League last season, so the experience will help him if he moves to the Turf Moor.

Verdict

That said, Burnley should do everything in their power to beat off competition for Camarasa and wrap up a deal as quickly as possible.
