Arsenal and Manchester United Stars Included in the EPL Team of the Season So Far

Share

We may be only eight games into the Premier League season. but it has certainly been a roller coaster ride till now. The season heads into its second international break on the back of a weekend full of blockbuster fixtures, Arsenal came out of the blocks too quickly for Manchester United’s liking, scoring 3 goals in the opening 19 minutes to set up a comfortable victory for Arsene Wenger’s side. Champions Chelsea, led by legendary manager Jose Mourinho have so far put up a pathetic title defence with almost all their players failing to hit the heights of last season.

Goalkeeper: Heurelho Gomes

Watford have conceded the joint lowest amount of goals in the division and the Brazilian is enjoying his life at Vicarage Road. In their last game at Bournemouth, Gomes pulled off a wonder save and stopped a penalty. He has been brilliant this season between the sticks for the promoted side.

Defense: Kolarov, Bellerin, Dann and Smalling

Chris Smalling

In defense we have the centre back pairing of Scott Dann and Chris Smalling. Dann has been one of the brightest sparks in a Crystal Palace team that sit 4th going into the international break, his exclusion from the England squad is still a mystery. While Smalling has led the United team brilliantly, one of the true success stories under Louis van Gaal at Manchester United. Kolarov has cemented his position in the team at the expense of Clichy, he has done a superb job defensively and remains a serious threat going forward. Arsenal youngster Bellerin has successfully become the first choice right back ahead of Debuchy this season, his explosive speed going forward is crucial to Arsenal’s counter attacking style.

Midfield: Coquelin, Sanchez, Mahrez and Cabaye

Francis Coquelin

Whenever Coquelin doesn’t play, it’s easy to see how important he is to the Arsenal team. In a few games where Arteta and Flamini have started in place him, Arsenal have looked very vulnerable and have allowed oppositions to score at will. Football fraternity was in shock last weekend when Mahrez was left on the bench for Leicester’s win at Norwich. The Algerian has been a revelation this season, showing technical skills and an end product that has attracted the attention of some big clubs across Europe. Sanchez started the season a little slowly but has suddenly exploded into life in recent matches. His hat-trick at Leicester and brace versus Manchester United means the best is still  yet to come from the Arsenal attacker. Many people were left shocked when it was revealed that Palace had bought Cabaye from PSG in the summer but since then he has chipped in with three goals so far this season and is loving playing under Alan Pardew.

Attacker: Vardy and Aguero

Sergio Aguero

James Vardy has been in incredible form this season for Leicester City, having scored five goals in four games. If Leicester want to finish in the top half of the table, they will need their main striker to continue his goal scoring run for a little while longer. Aguero is clearly the best striker in the Premier League, some people might have argued his inclusion had he not scored five goals against Newcastle last weekend. The Argentine is crucial to City’s plans of winning the title.
