Manchester City vs Swansea City Report: Manchester City match report

Manchester City beat Swansea City 3-2 to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup but few critics and fans would say that the reigning Premier League Champions deserved that win. Swansea City, who sit 15th in the Championship with no chance at promotion this season, gave them a run for their money.

Not only did they withstand Manchester City’s unrelenting pressure for nearly 100 odd minutes, but they flourished. Yet, given the talent and the players that Pep Guardiola has at his disposal, everyone expected them to produce a comeback.

And that’s exactly what they did eventually, with the Swans frustrating City beyond what any Premier League team has managed to do this season. The home side hurried and hassled Manchester City, and produced a game that nobody expected.

The first goal stemmed from an exquisite long-distance pass from centre-back Mike Van der Hoorn before Fabian Delph fouled Tyler Roberts inside the box. Rightfully the penalty was given and Matt Grimes converted it with ease, sending Ederson the wrong way. However, it was the second goal that made Manchester City look like a terrible side.

Not only did Swansea City replicate what the champions are known for, but they did it with such ease and class, and they were rewarded with a brilliant finish from Celina.

That was as good as it would get for the home side in the final third. The second half turned out to be all Manchester City as Pep Guardiola and company searched for a clear-cut road to the quadruple.

Things were far from clear-cut though and barring the opening fifteen minutes, the Cityzens failed to create anything good. In the end, Bernardo Silva proved to be the difference maker for Manchester City, with the Portuguese scoring one and assisting the winner.

Arguably the best Manchester City player on the field tonight, the former Monaco star showed exactly why he’s among the best in the team. Not only did he prove influential in the final third but more so, Silva was a tireless worker like always.

This proved to be the turning point as not only did Manchester City have five players good enough to be difference makers, but they all stepped up.

Gabriel Jesus struggled for the most part, but substituting Riyad Mahrez for Sergio Aguero was the catalyst that led to the win. The goals flowed in minutes after the Argentinean walked onto the field and it simply wouldn’t stop.

Manchester City have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and here is what some excited City fans had to say after the result:

And here is that fantastic goal from Swansea City, hats off to them:
