Leicester City vs Burnley report: Leicester City Match Report

A 10-man Leicester City beat Burnley 2-1 in an enthralling game at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. Goals from James Maddison and skipper Wes Morgan gave 3 points to Brendan Rodgers’ side after a tough start to the game.

The hosts had the worst possible start to the game as Harry Maguire was sent off in under 5 minutes after a foul on Johann Berg Gudmundsson. The Iceland international came close with the resultant freekick but his shot rattled the post.

Demarai Gray’s night ended early as he was replaced by Wes Morgan in the 6th minute. Gudmundsson continued to trouble the hosts as his delightful ball into the box was headed just wide by Chris Wood.

Leicester, despite going down to 10 men, looked comfortable as Maddison almost got to the end of a loose ball in the Burnley box. Maddison, however, hit the mark with a fantastic free-kick in the 33rd minute to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Phil Bardsley was the first player to be booked after a heavy tackle on the goalscorer. Burnley got back into the game, thanks to an impressive strike from Dwight McNeil and the teams went in level at the break.

Burnley missed two big chances at the start of the second half as Jack Cork and Ashely Westwood’s shots missed the targets. Burnley dominated the early possession in the second half but failed to cause any damage to the hosts.

Brendan Rodgers made his second change of the game on the hour mark as Christian Fuchs replaced goalscorer James Maddison. Burnley came close again as McNeil’s ball into the box was well controlled by Wood before shooting over from point-blank range.

The Kiwi’s embarrassment was short lived as the flag went up for offside. Jonny Evans came really close for the Foxes as he was centimetres away from Tieleman’s brilliant free-kick.

Rodgers looked to settle for a point as he brought on Mendy in place of Harvey Barnes with 15 minutes left to play. However, the former Liverpool boss got more than he wished for, thanks to Wes Morgan’s brilliant header to give the Foxes an unlikely lead.

Leicester City remain 11th on the table after their brilliant win but Burnley are well and truly in the relegation battle as a victory to Cardiff will drop Sean Dyche’s men to 18th place.
