5 Ways To Beat Tottenham: Tips For Arsenal And Other PL Teams

Share

It is incredible to think that Tottenham have a real chance of winning the league this season. With only a few games remaining, Tottenham are second in the league table and are two points off top spot.

Tottenham have shown their credentials this season by doing extremely well against Manchester City and now travel for a Europa League tie. More than anything they are playing some great football and with a young team that believes in themselves, who knows what all they can do?

Spurs though aren’t unbeatable, sure they might have been unlucky to lose to Manchester United at the start of the season but the rest of the season has been brilliant for the London team. Other sides (Mainly, Arsenal, who will travel to the lane soon for a potential title deciding game), might be looking to beat Mauricio Pochettino’s side and here are five tips on just how to do that.

1.Pressure on Kane

Harry Kane

Harry Kane is the main man for Tottenham at least in attack, the 22-year-old might have been on scoring drought a at the start of the season but he has found his goal scoring boots once again and Tottenham are thriving on that.

One way to shut them out is ensuring that Kane is not giving the time and space to run behind the defence. This might seem like a simple tactic but if you can keep them quiet at the top of the field, the rest of the team might have to step up but if the target man is taken out of the game, the job certainly gets easier for everyone.

2. Hit them with energy

The only time Tottenham seemed a bit out of their depth was playing against Liverpool at home. That was Jurgen Klopp’s first game and Liverpool outran Spurs, something that no other team has managed to do this season.

Liverpool played with great energy and their movement was second to none that day. The Reds haven’t been able to perform to that ability the entire season but that is the way to go about when playing against Spurs. Put them under pressure and don’t allow them any time to rest with your movement.

3. Load the midfield

Tottenham have one of the best midfields in the Premier League thanks to players such as Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Mousa Dembele. What teams need to do is cut out the ability of the Spurs midfield to dictate the game.

Dele Alli

While Tottenham might have the ball for large parts of the game, the best thing to do is to load the midfield with extra players and reduce the spaces and gaps for Tottenham to exploit. You need to be extremely disciplined to try this out but certainly trying this against Tottenham and then launching in the counter-attack would be a great tactic.

4. Counter attack is the best weapon

Well of course, counter-attacking Tottenham would be the obvious option. You do need pace in the team and we have seem such things work against Manchester City this season by Liverpool. Tottenham also play an energetic pressing game and that would create spaces for the opposition to exploit.

There won’t be many chances given to the opposition when playing against Spurs and you must take every chance you get. One chance is all you need and then a disciplined display at the back could get you the three points that you need.

5. Target Kevin Wimmer

The biggest way to beat Tottenham would be to target their relatively new players, Kevin Wimmer. The Austrian centre-back was brought in to replace an injured Jan Vertonghen and he has looked good in the few games he has played for Tottenham but he hasn’t really been tested all that well.

The 23-year-old is now a regular in the team due to Vertonghen’s injury and that would mean playing in a run of games. The defender might not be used to playing so many games in such a crucial run at the end of the season and targeting him relentlessly would be a great ploy to get a goal and hopefully defeat Tottenham.
