Predicted Crystal Palace XI to face Southampton in the Premier League

Crystal Palace face Southampton at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Saturday after their midweek progress to the third round of the Carabao Cup by defeating Swansea City.

Palace endured a frustrating 2-1 defeat to Watford last weekend and following the Carabao Cup victory at Swansea, the Eagles would be desperate to turn things around in the Premier League on Saturday.

Team News

James Tomkins missed the Watford and Swansea games with a knee injury and is not expected to feature against Southampton. Scott Dann continues his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Meanwhile, Connor Wickham is nearing a return after 21 months out with a knee injury, but is unlikely to feature in the matchday squad.

Probable Crystal Palace XI

Formation: 4-4-2

Manager: Roy Hodgson

Wayne Hennessey (GK)

Hennessey is Palace’s first-choice in goal and is expected to keep his place against Southampton.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (RB)

Wan-Bissaka is clearly a talent, dishing out impressive displays for Palace. Now that he has returned from suspension, he will slot in at right-back.

Martin Kelly (CB)

Kelly will have to be at the top of his game in order to keep the Southampton attackers at bay.

Mamadou sakho

Mamadou Sakho (CB)

Partnering Kelly in central defence will be Sakho. He looks uneasy in possession but when it comes to fundamental defending, he is a rock solid player to have on the team.

Patrick van Aanholt (LB)

Van Aanholt is an enterprising left-back who always looks to provide width to his team from the left. He is a definite starter against the Saints.

James McArthur (CM)

James McArthur is a box-to-box midfielder who dictates the tempo of the game. Other than his good passing abilities, he is also a goal threat.

Luka Milivojevic (CM)

Milivojevic sits deep, screens the Palace backline and keeps Palace ticking with his distribution skills.

Andros Townsend (RW)

Townsend can be a threat on the right flank for the Saints as he cuts onto his left foot before trying the spectacular. His pace and directness should keep the Southampton defenders on their toes.

Jeffrey Schlupp (LW)

Schlupp has done very well so far this season. He is a versatile player who can be used everywhere on the pitch. The only thing frustrating about his game is the lack of end product.

Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha (SS)

Palace’s main asset going forward, Zaha can rip apart defences single-handedly on his day. He is a sure starter on Saturday against the Saints.

Alexander Sorloth (ST)

Benteke’s wretched form could see him make way for Sorloth, who scored his first goal for Palace in the Carabao Cup victory over Swansea.
