Bielsa to make 9 changes – Strongest 4-1-4-1 Leeds XI to face Middlesbrough

Predicted Leeds United line-up to face Middlesbrough in the Championship

Leeds United have had a near perfect start to the season, winning 4 league games, drawing the other. New manager Marcelo Bielsa has certainly stamped his playing style on the team, who are responding in a positive way with fantastic performances.

The Peacocks weren’t at their best against Preston in the League Cup tie, partly due the wholesale changes made by the manager. Expect a full-strength eleven to take the field in the Friday night game at the Elland Road. They will face a Middlesbrough team who are also firing on all cylinders.

Liam Cooper will be out for this game too, however, Leeds have got Pontus Jansson back from injury.

Probable Leeds XI

Formation – 4-1-4-1

Manager – Marcelo Bielsa

Bailey Peacock-Farrell (GK)

Was given a midweek off, so he will be fresh to start this game. He has improved after a shaky start.

Luke Ayling (RB)

Ayling was among several players rested for the Tuesday game, expect him to be back in his usual right-back position.

Pontus Jansson

Pontus Jansson (CB)

The Swedish international was flawless last week after his comeback from injury. With Liam Cooper injured, Bielsa would be delighted to have Jansson back in the squad.

Gaetano Berardi (CB)

Berardi has done well to adapt to his new position in central defence. Cooper’s absence will give him more time to settle in and nail down that spot.

Barry Douglas (LB)

The new summer signing has been a revelation for the Peacocks, delivering dangerous crosses and covering the ground well. He is certain to be a key figure this season.

Kalvin Phillips (CDM)

He has been a bit up and down in terms of performances, however, he is a good possession player. Bielsa may offer him more time to grab his spot in central defensive midfield.

Mateusz Klich

Mateusz Klich (RCM)

Rested for the midweek game, he should be back for the Friday fixture, fresh to cause havoc in midfield.

Samuel Saiz (LCM)

The Spaniard was rested too, for the midweek game. Even him to take his role in advanced midfield.

Pablo Hernandez (RW)

The Spanish veteran has been phenomenal for Leeds thus far and deserved a rest in midweek. He should be fresh to play a part on Friday.

Ezgjan Alioski

Ezgjan Alioski (LW)

Alioski has improved his game massively after a slow start. Performed badly against Swansea but came back well against Norwich. He needs to add consistency to his game and make the left-wing spot his own.

Kemar Roofe (ST)

The striker has worked very hard on and off the ball, scoring goals and being a nuisance for the defenders. He is a perfect Bielsa-type centre-forward who can press from the front.
