West Ham United were humbled at the hands of Liverpool last week after the Reds thumped the Hammers to end the game 4-0. After an impressive pre-season, Manuel Pellegrini’s newly-assembled side failed to live up to the expectations in the opening game of the season.
The Hammers must aim for a win against AFC Bournemouth when the Cherries visit London Stadium this weekend. Eddie Howe’s men picked up a 2-0 win against Cardiff City last week, meaning they should be determined to make it two-in-two when they take on West Ham United.
Apart from Andy Carroll, Winston Reid and Manuel Lanzini, West Ham don’t have any fresh injury concerns and should be able to field another strong team this weekend. Andriy Yarmolenko, who came on as a second-half substitute against Liverpool, looked fairly impressive on the ball. He should be handed his first start in this game.
If it wasn’t for a brilliant save from Fabianski, Trent Alexander-Arnold would have gotten his free-kick goal. The Polish goalkeeper is one of the best shot-stoppers in the league and he will prove to be vital for the Hammers this season.
The youngster enduring a tough evening last time out, having to deal with Mohamed Salah. But he shouldn’t be judged in a game which saw his whole team underperform.
The Paraguayan found it difficult to cope with the likes of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino but he looked threatening during corners. He should start against the Cherries as well.
The Italian has been a mainstay after breaking into the first-team. Not only is he defensively diligent, but Ogbonna also poses a massive threat from set-pieces.
Masuaku was largely restricted from playing his game due to the presence of Sadio Mane last weekend. But he must push forward and display his attacking prowess against the Cherries.
Despite Noble’s age, his leadership and authoritative presence in the squad is unrivalled. The midfielder also possesses a wide range of passing ability in the middle of the park. Noble cut a frustrated figure in the game against Liverpool but should return to the line-up.
Rice looked comfortable slotting into a central midfield role, but as mentioned, it’s hard to judge the Hammers after their thrashing from last weekend.
Anderson was the only player who deserved some sort of praise for his performance against Liverpool. The attacker was constantly on the move and tracked back whenever West Ham needed help.
Wilshere was unable to make things click in the final third against Liverpool but his quality is undeniable and should be started in a similar role against the Cherries.
Yarmolenko looked calm and composed after coming on as a substitute in the last game. He should be started ahead of Michail Antonio this weekend.
Despite his red-hot form, the Austrian seemed to be a lonely island in the last game. His goalscoring prowess is undoubted, however, and he should lead the line against Eddie Howe’s men.
