Thiago Alcantara moved from Barcelona to Bayern Munich two summers ago. At that time it was widely speculated that he may be moving to Manchester United. At that point Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes, both had looked to sign this prolific midfielder from Barcelona but the player chose otherwise.
During Spain’s participation in European under-21 championship in 2013, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea tried to convince Thiago to move to Old Trafford. Apparently, after the match in which Spain beat Italy, David De Gea wrote on the match ball asking the midfielder to move to Manchester United.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, the 24-year-old revealed: “There was never any firm proposal.
“David de Gea wanted me to join. He wrote a message on my match ball after we’d beaten Italy in the final. But I’d have done the same with him. He is one of the greatest goalkeepers in the world. You always want to play with the best. But it was always going to be Munich.”
Thiago however, chose Bayern Munich and has reiterated that he is very happy in Munich. However he feels that the English Premier League is very exciting and has not ruled out the possibility of a future move.
“All I will say is that it is an amazing league. It is probably the best league in the world. I’m very happy at Bayern and fulfilled with what I am doing.”
There has not been any formal proposal so far for the midfielder but with Manchester United struggling to create chances, one cannot rule out the possibility of an offer.
