According to Spanish newspaper El Diario Vasco (h/t The Sun), Tottenham are interested in signing Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose as they look to replace the injured Harry Kane.
Harry Kane, 26, handed Tottenham a major worry when he went down with a nasty hamstring injury earlier this month. The England skipper underwent a successful operation which will keep him out until April.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho should definitely replace Kane this month, with 17-year-old Troy Parrott the only other out-and-out striker in the squad. The likes of Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min can also play in the No.9 role but they are more effective down the flanks, as witnessed in the last few seasons at the club.
Now, Spurs want to sign Willian Jose from Real Sociedad, but a deal for the striker would mean meeting the release clause of £60million, adds the report. (h/t The Sun)
Jose, 28, has been a prolific goalscorer for Real Sociedad ever since joining in 2016. In his debut season with Sociedad, the Brazilian forward netted 14 goals in 34 games.
In the 2017/18 La Liga campaign, he bagged 20 goals in 40 appearances. While his productivity decreased last season, Jose still managed 11 goals in 34 appearances.
The 28-year-old has bagged 8 goals in the league, which has helped Real Sociedad to 6th place in La Liga, four points off the top-four. Jose is an experienced striker and has proven himself in La Liga.
He would add a lot of quality to the Spurs squad and revive Mourinho’s attack, which has looked toothless without Kane. In fact, Spurs have failed to score a single goal in their last three league outings, which clearly suggest how desperately they are lacking a presence up top.
Following Kane’s injury, Mourinho’s decision to use Son, Lucas or Dele Alli up front hasn’t brought much success to Tottenham. And with just one win in their last six league matches, the Portuguese tactician should prioritise bringing in a striker before this transfer window slams shut.
It remains to be seen whether or not Tottenham will meet Willian Jose’s £60million release clause. However, going by the Brazilian’s goalscoring record at Sociedad, Spurs must go all out to secure his signature.
