Why this Hazard-esque Tottenham teenager could freshen things up at Newcastle United

Tottenham Hotspur starlet Marcus Edwards is in demand in the ongoing summer transfer window., having drawn interest from Newcastle United. The 19-year-old attacking midfielder, who has just returned from his loan spell with Norwich City, must look for a new club as he doesn’t seem to have a future with Spurs.

To make the most out of the situation, Newcastle are pushing for a deal for the English youngster and he could be a great addition to their squad.

Let’s analyze why Edwards is capable of taking Newcastle to the next level.

Impressed despite limited opportunities

Edwards performed well for Tottenham in the UEFA Youth League before heading out on loan to Norwich. The midfielder scored an impressive 4 goals and provided 3 assists in the 6 games, displaying maturity beyond his age as he established himself as the main man for his team and impacted every single game.

In January, however, Tottenham decided to send the player on loan to Norwich City and he didn’t get an opportunity to prove his quality. However, in his 9 appearances in the Premier League 2, Edwards scored 4 goals and assisted 2 more.

Hazard-esque when on the ball

You need to be truly special to draw a comparison to one of the finest dribblers in world football. Edwards’ dribbling ability, style and efficiency are similar to Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard. The midfielder appears to have a low centre of gravity which helps him take on players for fun.

Along with his exceptional dribbling ability, Edwards is also a good passer of the ball. The English youngster likes to weave forward before handing a through ball or a key pass to a team-mate in a better position.

Versatile

Marcus Edwards is a versatile attacker who is capable of playing in numerous positions. Primarily an inverted winger on the right, the Tottenham man can play through the centre as well. His ball-carrying ability often allows him to slot in as an advanced playmaker.

With his ability on the ball and pace to threaten, Rafa Benitez could truly benefit from bringing the promising youngster to his team.
