Go for it Gracia – This talented Brazilian star can be a Richarlison-like hit for Watford if signed

Watford Opinion: Can Corinthians star Gustavo da Silva become Watford’s next bargain star?

The Watford Observer have revealed that Watford are targeting their next bargain Brazilian star, Corinthian forward Gustavo da Silva. The 24-year-old has been in fine form in Brazilian Serie A for Corinthians, scoring 14 goals in 28 appearances last season.

The Watford Observer has further reported that the Hornets want to sign Silva after their success with former star, Richarlison.

The former Watford star was brought in for a then paltry fee of around £11million a few years ago, but the club turned that into a hefty profit. Not only did Richarlison impress in his first season in the Premier League, but he also left for Everton in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee of around £40million (h/t BBC).

This allowed Gracia to re-invest that money in key areas, and now the Watford boss can do it again. Both Troy Deeney and Andre Gray have struggled to find the back of the net this season, but more so, they lack the speed and agility that Gustavo could provide.

Gustavo Da Silva is an extremely exciting prospect at the age of 24. It’s not surprising that the Premier League side have made the 24-year-old their target given his rare blend of pace and power.

A tall and physical centre-forward, the Brazilian has the ability and the mindset to adapt perfectly to the Premier League. Moreover, his surprising turn of pace will shock a few defenders who underestimate him and that combined with his attacking instincts inside the box, he is a great option.

While Da Silva may not have the impact that Richarlison had, he would prove to be a good option up front for manager Javi Gracia. Questions can be raised about his mentality and consistency but if there is one manager who can get a player back on track, it’s Gracia.

Conclusion

The Watford boss has done it for both Troy Deeney and Gerard Deulofeu this season, with even Roberto Pereyra and Abdoulaye Doucoure improving. Any move will always carry a risk, but given how well Gustavo da Silva has played over the last few seasons, under the right manager and coaching, anyone can survive the Premier League.
