A much-needed leader – Here’s why Man Utd re-signing this lethal 50-goal veteran is a no-brainer

Why signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January is a no-brainer for Man United

Former Manchester United player Clayton Blackmore has urged the Red Devils to re-sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Major League Soccer after a tough start to the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, 37, is thriving in the MLS having scored 50 goals for LA Galaxy in the last two seasons. He left for the United States of America in March 2018 after a successful two years with Manchester United where he won three trophies where he won the EFL Cup, Community Shield and Europa League.

Seeing the former Sweden international shattering records in the MLS, Clayton Blackmore wants United to sign the 6ft 5in striker to solve their goalscoring woes. That being said, should United look to bring Ibrahimovic back at Old Trafford?

United have shown a change in their transfer policy under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer, signing the right profile of players and not just any player that’s available.

Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James are of that mould and Solskjaer should try to find more players to build the team around.

However, the Red Devils are currently struggling in every area of the pitch at the moment. They are lacking the creativity to break teams that sit deep and defend, while Solskjaer has very limited options up top.

The club sold Romelu Lukaku before the start of the season to Inter Milan, after being told that he’d be playing second fiddle to Marcus Rashford this season.

Rashford picked up an injury during United’s 2-0 loss to West Ham United last weekend, leaving only Mason Greenwood as a recognised striker in the squad. But, seeing as Greenwood is inexperienced at the top level, Solskjaer must bring in someone experienced to take over from the teenage prodigy as well as make a difference at the club.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be the ideal signing for United. The Swede is one of the iconic names in the history of the game and is continuously proving age is just a number.

He spent two successful seasons at United under former manager Jose Mourinho, but the veteran striker struggled with a knee injury for the majority of the second, limiting his total to 29 goals.

The ex-Paris Saint-Germain superstar is one of the best target-man in the game and would give United a different dimension to that of Rashford, Martial and Greenwood.

In reality, Solskjaer’s squad is lacking a leader and a kind of personality, someone who is willing to take responsibility and guide the team through a difficult period.

Ibrahimovic definitely could be that player as his presence and charisma in the dressing room would be mightily beneficial for a youthful United squad.

Verdict

Ibrahimovic has proven himself in the Premier League and a return to Old Trafford in January is an absolute no-brainer.
