Tottenham Opinion: Can Manu Trigueros turn Spurs into title challengers?

Selling Mousa Dembele without bringing in a replacement will go down as Mauricio Pochettino’s biggest mistake this season.

The Tottenham boss knew he lacked depth in the middle of the park, and while he did transform Moussa Sissoko into a central midfielder, his ability won’t be enough to make progress in the future.

The North London side are interested in chasing the Premier League title. They do have Harry Kane, Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Davinson Sanchez and a few others, they’re ambitious players.

They know that a footballer’s life span is only so long and it’s up to them to make the right decisions to win honours and trophies before their career is done. This puts the onus on the club and Mauricio Pochettino in the summer window.

Both the club and the fans know that they need reinforcements. One player has to be Villarreal star Manu Trigueros. At the moment, the Yellow submarines sit 18th in the La Liga and are two points below 17th-placed Celta Vigo.

However, they do have a slight chance of surviving the current season but only if the performances improve. But despite that, for Manu Trigueros, no matter what happens, the 27-year-old’s future looks very bright.

An all-action midfielder, the Spaniard has suffered his fair share of injury issues over the last few years, which has dampened his prime years. But he still remains a classy midfielder and for Tottenham, he could be the one to take over in the middle of the park.

Not only can he pass, dictate the play, defend and shoot from range but his set-pieces can be very dangerous at times. Add that to his boundless stamina and defensive work rate combined with his dribbling and creativity, he is an interesting signing.

However, that’s only if Tottenham do make the move first. Spurs shouldn’t think twice about making a move for the La Liga ace and Pochettino would benefit a lot from this signing.

Tom Landry once said "Football is an incredible game. Sometimes it's so incredible, it's unbelievable." Football is and always will be the beautiful game. What every child understands, yet every adult struggles to, is that it is a game that defines the nature of the universe. But that's just me.
