According to the Sun, Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is now considering other options due to a lack of game time at the club. The Italian full-back arrived from the Serie A for a £12.9million fee but only in his first season was he a regular in the squad.
The Red Devils have an option to extend his contract by a year and though Jose Mourinho might prefer to keep the defender, Darmian may seek a move in order to receive regular game time. (Sun)
The report suggests that Serie A sides Inter Milan and Roma are interested in acquiring the full-back. Manchester United should definitely offload the right-back if they’re offered a decent sum when the window opens in January.
The Italian has failed to make an impact under Jose Mourinho and has rarely featured in the manager’s plans as well. Though offloading him will leave the Red Devils with just Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia as the only options at right-back, United should definitely aim to cash in on Darmian.
Darmian has not featured since the first game of the season against Leicester City. There is a lack of energy and motivation on his side. Mourinho demands great intensity and work rate from his full-backs and though Darmian may be defensively fruitful, his attacking input has been very poor.
The Italian seems to be a dysfunctional option in Jose Mourinho’s system. Ashley Young has gone on to cement the role at right-back this season and the English defender has been a lot more fruitful. Though he is aged 33, Young’s work rate, defensive ability and marauding runs make him stand out.
The Red Devils have made a horrendous start to their season but things have looked positive for them over the last few weeks, with them beating Juventus in the Champions League. But they have been defensively very poor and have conceded a total of 21 goals in 12 league games so far.

Mourinho was in the market to acquire new defenders in the summer but no move materialised. The manager might have to dive into the market when the transfer window reopens in January and that is why the club should sell Darmian.
Offloading Darmian will fetch Manchester United the funds needed to engineer the transfer for another defender.
