Why should Chelsea avoid signing Barcelona outcast Denis Suarez

According to Spanish outlet Marca, Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez is the last person in line for selection under Ernesto Valverde. After the match against Inter Milan, it was clear that the 24-year-old isn’t exactly in the plans of the manager.

Suarez wasn’t even in the squad for the game at the San Siro, but Barcelona B team member Carles Alena featured. Hence, it is safe to say that the attacking midfielder’s days at the Camp Nou are numbered, with the manager having no interest in selecting him for a big game, not even for the bench.

As per the report, Denis is still adamant to fight for his spot in Spain, however, it is increasingly looking likely that he won’t get the opportunity at Camp Nou. Hence, the option to look for options elsewhere in January seems to make a whole lot of sense.

And Express claims Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is interested in signing the player when the opportunity arises. Here’s why the Blues shouldn’t look to sign the 24-year-old in the January transfer window:

Chelsea have abundant talent in the midfield

Looking at the Chelsea squad right now, they have a very strong midfield with plenty of room for improvement in the team. And with the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek around, the ideal backup is available too for the Blues. The emergence of Ross Barkley under Sarri means the 2017 Premier League champions have another fine option in the midfield.

With Mateo Kovacic in the team for the season, the London-based club have the option of extending his stay beyond next summer or look for better options at the end of this season. There is certainly no need for an influx of a midfielder in the winter window.

Hence, even though the manager prefers to have Denis Suarez in the squad, it won’t make sense from the team’s point of view right now. Chelsea have a strong midfield with players of high quality to make the difference. They have good backups as well, who can come in and do the job whenever required.

In reality, the area in which they need strengthening is the wide attacking areas, where they have three first-team players for two positions, very less number for a team challenging on all fronts.
