Wolves signing this exciting 19-year-old South American would add some much-needed cover

Why Leonardo Campana could be an exciting addition to Wolves’ ranks

According to Sky Sports, Wolves are understood to be in talks to sign young striker Leonardo Campana from Ecuadorian side SC Barcelona SC.

Leonardo Campana, 19, produced a breakout performance at the 2019 South American Under-20 Championship, top-scoring with six goals, as his Ecuador side defeated Argentina in the final to be crowned as champions. He has netted three goals and supplied an assist in 16 games this season.

The report adds that the teenager had caught the eye of Napoli in the summer following his performances at the 2019 South American Under-20 Championship. However, Wolves are now in pole position to sign the forward, having entered talks over a move.

The Wanderers are experiencing another good season and currently sit seventh in the Premier League table, while they also have a Europa League last 32 tie against La Liga side Espanyol next month. But Nuno Espirito Santo has a small squad and to compete on different fronts, and hence he must beef up his squad this month.

Thus, it would be a resourceful addition if Wolves can rope in the highly-rated Leonardo Campana. The teenager has impressed with a series of dazzling performances and would help the Wanderers increase goalscoring productivity.

Much of Wolves’ success this season could be linked to Raul Jimenez’s fabulous form in front of goal, with the Mexican netting 8 in the Premier League. Adama Traore looks to be in inspired form of late and has chipped in with a few crucial goals. Pedro Neto has impressed in the last couple of outings, repaying Nuno’s faith.

However, the Midlands outfit might find it tougher as the season gets going and an injury to a key player could scupper their aims and objectives of the season.

In that case, to add depth and quality to their squad, a player like Campana would be handy. And alongside Jimenez, Traore, Neto and Diogo Jota, he would get a chance to improve himself and with regular game time, his qualities could improve.

With a player of the Ecuadorian’s talent and potential, Wolves cannot afford the chance to miss out on him and they must do everything possible to bring him to Molineux this month.

Nuno has earned a reputation of nurturing young talents and Campana could benefit a lot by working under the Portuguese tactician.
